2012 Emmys Coverage: Red Carpet Trends (and How to Rock Them!)

Once again, another award show means a new crop of red carpet pictures. A few weeks ago, I told you what trends we saw on the VMA red carpet and how to rock them in everyday life! With the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards just this past Sunday, it’s time for a new crop of trends to emulate!

Shades of Blue

Forget 50 Shades of Grey – the stars have spoken, and this season it’s all about shades of blue! Many celebrities wore blue gowns, from light, seafoam colors to deep, dark blues. Zooey Deschanel was one of my favorites in blue. The fluffy, wispy dress matched her whimsical personality!

How to rock it: Blue works with any skin tone, so figure out what shade looks best on you. If you want to be a little different, incorporate blue tones into your makeup routine. Try wearing some blue eyeshadow or eyeliner (and just ignore what the haters think!)

Center-part updos

Many celebrities channeled their inner-bohemian diva with a center parted updo. “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland looked Grecian and chic in her white Marchesa gown and fabulous updo. The escaped curls framing her face kept the look from seeming too stuffy or put together.

How to rock it: If you’re worried that a center part is too harsh, follow Sarah’s style and let some loose curls hang out from your updo, preferably more curls on one side than the other. They’ll keep the look from becoming too symmetrical.

Bright yellow

I was surprised to find that yellow is an “in” color this season for nails; apparently the trend’s grown, as many stars graced the red carpet in canary-colored clothing. Claire Danes was my favorite celeb to rock the color; her dress looked so good against her tan skin!

How to rock it: Taking on canary yellow is a big risk, so don’t over do it. Pick one item of clothing or accessory in the color, and then help tone down the brightness with a calming neutral. For example, if you go with a bright yellow top, try pairing it with gray jeans.

Va-va voom curls

It was all about volume this year on the red carpet as Stars showed off their blown-out curls. Heidi Klum looked the part of an old-school, Hollywood-glam babe with her voluminous curls and slit dress. Talk about sexy!

How to rock it: Make sure you’re using the right product for the style! Find special hair care items designed specifically for curls to help keep your bounce and volume. Miss Jessie’s products are popular amongst curly haired girls.

What do you think? Which trends did you notice? Would you rock any of these? Let us known in the comments!
