Having an ugly blemish is bad enough, and trying to cover it up is a whole different story. I have told you guys several times before, but I have been an unfortunate victim of acne for 11 years now. I got my first break out when I was 7 and they haven’t stopped since. Throughout the years I have had to learn how to conceal and cover the pimples to the best of my ability. In a world of so many products and brands that task can come to be a bit overwhelming. You have to dodge ingredients that will break you out even more, while still looking for good and even coverage. Walking into a store like Sephora can make this task seem very daunting, so I thought I would share some of my personal favorites and advice. I am by no means promising these products won’t break you out.. they just happen to be ones that are the best for my skin. You can always chat with a beauty adviser or dermatologist to find the best stuff for your personal skin!
Primers are a tough one when it comes to avoiding acne. I have tried so many different ones that have left me when unruly pimples every time. Cover FX is a great brand that is acne friendly. Their Cover FX Clearprep Matte Foundation Primer and Anti-Acne Treatment is awesome and doesn’t cause any unwanted eruptions. Not only will it leave you with a smooth surface and strong holding power, but it will also treat your zits with willowbark extract, natural fruit AHA, and African Bark Extract. I definitely recommend giving this a try if you’d had problems with primers in the past! It’s well worth the $39!
Now comes the really hard part, covering it all up! Clinique’s Acne Solutions Clearing Concealer is a great cover-up that also contains salicylic acid to fight off acne. I dab this on any enormous pimples that come up and it covers super well! The acne medication inside isn’t anything fantastic, but it does help shrivel up the spot without doing any irritating.
Physicians Formula Concealer Twins in Green/Light is another cover-up option. In the world of concealer green cancels out red, so this is great for hiding any red boils or irritated areas. The coverage is good, and this doesn’t bother my skin either. Pat on some of the green end to void the red hue and then go over it with the “light” end. That will leave a nicely covered area with no funky green hints. Now we’re ready for some foundation!
I’ve preached about this products many times before, but I had to include it in this post. BareMinerals’ Original powder foundation is fantastic! My skin loves this product, and it covers everything just the way I need it to. I have no complaints with this powder at all! It was the first foundation type product that I ever used, and so far it’s still the last. This goes for any brush, but make sure you clean the brush you use for this product regularly. If not, you risk packing bacteria and ickyness on your skin.. and that will lead you straight to pimple madness!
If you just absolutely loathe mineral powder then Korres Wild Rose Foundation is for you! It has great coverage as well as being “green.” Wild Rose is a natural ingredient that has a heavy dose of Vitamin C, a skin saver indeed. This is a liquid that you can apply however you like. If I am going to use something other than powder I like to use disposable applicator sponges. This helps me make sure I’m not passing on anything that would be bad news for my skin.
Do you guys struggle with pimples or acne? If so, what products are your favorite for covering? Always make sure you experiment with different foundations in order to find what works best for your skin. Another quick tip: A lot of times the ladies at the makeup counter will give you a sample of a foundation so you can give it a try for a few days before making an investment. Take advantage of that, and love your skin!
