Our forums have been a’bustle with photos and thoughts on the Birchbox sample boxes that have been hitting our doorsteps for the last few months. I decided to try to get some extra input from Birchbox themselves.
In case you haven’t heard about who they are, here’s some information about Birchbox:
For $10, subscribers get a new box every month, with 4-5 luxury samples. Skincare, hair, makeup, fragrance, body and lifestyle products create these Birchboxes. They’re sized for at least 4-5 uses or more each, and they don’t send out sample packets unless that’s how the full sized product is actually packaged. Check out our forums to see what our members have received in the past in their own Birchboxes! Full-sized versions of these samples are available for purchase at Birchbox.com. As a bonus, if you are buying something that was sent out that same month, you’ll get free shipping! All purchases over $50 also receive free shipping.
The boxes are shipped via USPS to subscribers in the United States, its territories, and APO boxes at this time.
There are several boxes that are sent out each month, so your box may or may not include the same products as another person who got a Birchbox. Products sent out vary on your personal beauty profile as well as how long you have been a member. Birchbox tries to not send you repeat samples, but sometimes samples are offered more than once, allowing more people to try out that sample. So, if you’re a brand new member, you might receive a sample in your Birchbox that someone else received last month. (You can contact Birchbox if you receive a repeat sample, or have any other problems with your Birchbox. Their customer service has been very good from the feedback of our members as well as my own contacts with Birchbox.)
Part of it is surprise, part of it is fun, so if you receive something you don’t like, don’t fret, you might find something you love in that same box. Birchbox suggests that you enjoy the surprise and discovery process, and try out some products outside of your comfort zone! Birchbox includes a variety of large and small brands across a range of categories.
The Birchbox that I received included a philosophy Purity Made Simple one-step facial cleanser, that many members have said is an excellent, gentle brush cleanser (as well as working as a facial cleanser), a Redken shine flash spray – a citrusy scented spray to give your hair a shiny finish, a ybf beauty eye brow pencil in universal taupe, a Zoya polish in Pandora, and a KIND snack bar. As you can see, it’s a wide variety of products.
Last but not least, Birchbox offers a reward system. If you buy any of the full sized products in the shop, you’ll earn a point per dollar spent. Every new Birchbox you buy also earns you points. Accumulate 100 points, and you’ll get $10 towards your next shop purchase. You are also invited to review the samples you received for 10 extra points per survey. Surveys must be filled out within 30 days of receiving your Birchbox, and must be for an item that arrived in your Birchbox.
