Christmas is approaching fast and along with the holiday season come holiday parties. Some parties might be dressier than others. The question always is what to wear. You won’t want to be over or under dressed nor do you want to be dressed out of place.
I always struggle with this myself. I keep up with all the fashion trends by reading countless publications both print and online because fashion is my passion and because I need to know on what goes on in the fashion world for my jewelry designs. This season it’s all about black and gold, lace, soft and drapey silhouettes, embossed leather and metallic for accessories as well as animal prints. Here are some of the current trends in dresses to get you through the last few weeks of the Holiday season.
This holiday season is all about sparkle. Sequin tank tops are a great way to add some sparkle to your wardrobe if you are not into wearing a dress. On my recent trip to Target, I saw them in many different colors. If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative, Target is the way to go. I wish I had known Target carried them because I bought my sequin tank top for a lot higher price tag at a high end clothing party. I learned to check my local Target first before hunting for trendy more expensive things at other stores on my limited budget. I wore my sequin tank top to a girls night out party with a long fashionable cardigan (long front with shorter back), skinny jeans and furry clogs. I loved the look because it was current and trendy but, yet, oh so comfortable to wear. I love wearing trendy things but as the mother of 3 children, not all trendy things look good on me nor are they practical when running around with the children.
The LBD (the little black dress) is always in. Luckily there are so many versions of the LBD that everyone should be able to find one that is flattering and fits well. Finding the correct fit is the hardest part of shopping for a LBD but once you find one, you’ll never go back. The LBD will take you from one event to another and will never fail. It will make you look and feel great. It’s a classic choice for most events and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The LBD is a must for everyone woman. This season a lot more lace is being seen with the LBDs. You can update your current LBD in the closet by adding a little lace with a sheer cardigan. The best part about owning the perfect LBD or even more than one is that it doesn’t need to be updated but if you feel adventurous adding some accessories will definitely do the trick.
Other choices for party dresses are silk, velvet and sequin. Not the type of velvet dresses that your grandmother would wear but more updated looks such as mixtures of silk and velvet combined. Silk has such a great drape and feel to it that it really feels luxurious on but many times is a lot less forgiving with the body. A sequin dress is a lot more forgiving with the silhouette as are dresses with heavier fabric such as velvet. With the perfect dress, it’s all about the cut. Once you find the cut that suits your body, it makes a world of difference. I’ve had many ill fitting dresses over the years but once I found my perfect one I was amazed what a difference it makes. No need to work out at the gym for countless hours when you can cheat with a dress that is the right one for your body. Using undergarments definitely helps as well such as Spanx and other similar body shaping undergarments.
Before you go out and buy a whole new outfit for the upcoming party, raid your closet first and see if you can reinvent some dresses or pieces of clothing that you already own. You might be pleasantly surprised to find something that you hadn’t thought of wearing or you didn’t even realize you had in your closet. Combine your old dress with a pair of new shoes that make statement and some great jewelry to give it a new fresh look without forgetting a nice evening clutch. I love shopping my closet because if I can figure out how to make an old piece of clothing work without having to spend a lot of money, it makes me so happy.
