If you’ve been keeping up with the VMA coverage, then you know that there were some imitation-worthy looks (and some total duds!) on the red carpet Thursday. Considering that fall is finally starting, award show beauty and fashion can be a great way to predict what trends we’ll be seeing in the following months. Find out who was rocking what and how you can score the look at home!
Lots of celebrities were showing off their perfect pouts with bright red color. Demi Lovato shed her Disney good-girl image with a rocker-glam look that was perfectly accented with her fire-engine red lips. Rihanna and Taylor Swift both followed suit, bringing great attention to their faces.
How to rock it: Channel your inner film noir star and slather on your favorite red lipstick (like STARLOOKS’ lipstick in the aptly named Kinky!) Just make sure you go simple with the rest of your look; a smoky eye is a great way to balance the lips without competing for attention.
Apparently bikers are back in! Numerous stars were spotted sporting leather clothing, but the Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones managed to pull the look off the best in a form-fitting dress.
How to rock it: Leather works for all apparel types, just make sure not to go overboard. Pick one leather piece and accent with more girly materials or patterns. For example, work these leather shorts from H&M with a floral cardigan or pearls!
For those with pixie cuts among us, pompadours were THE hairstyle for ladies with short hair. Miley Cyrus was a notable example, as well as singer-songwriter Pink. This always edgy celeb , who performed one of her newest songs for the first time for fans at the VMAs, stayed classy but tough with her towering hairstyle.
How to rock it: Make sure you use a texturizing spray or gel to get the right amount of body. Learn how to do a pomp and get other hair help in MUT’s Ultimate Hair Thread.
It’s not just for wedding dresses! A number of stars rocked lace clothing this VMAs, from Ke$ha to even Nicki Minaj. “Teen Wolf” star Crystal Reed stood out in her gorgeous Alexander McQueen dress. The hot pink slip under the dress kept it from being too stuffy.
How to rock it: Take a cue from Crystal and pair your lace with neon colors! It’ll give your look a more modern and edgy feel. If you want to get really chic, pair it with another red carpet trend – leather. Leather shorts and a lacy top, anyone?
It will be interesting to see if styles stay the same come next major red carpet event. What trends are you most excited to rock?
