Update: I am in the process of building a completely new website, as WordPress refuses to communicate with me and give me back control of my original blog. I hope to have Adventures in Polishland back up and running by the end of the week. Thank you for understanding.
Today Adventures in Polishland's blog was disabled or deleted by Wordpress. Reason: Unknown but according to their site she violated their Terms of Service.

adventuresinpolishland.wordpress.com is no longer available. This blog has been archived or suspended for a violation of our Terms of Service.

For more information and to contact us please read this support document.
This led me to share her status on my own Facebook wall with this message.

WordPress disabled Adventures in Polishland blog! She's in the process of building a new one because of it. How horrible to start over from scratch since it means losing her stats and website traffic data!

This brings me to a tip of the day for bloggers. We all typically depend on some type of blogging site to host our posts and/or photos but what happens when your account is compromised either by the host shutting the site down or getting hacked? Do YOU have backups of your blog or photos? I know with my pictures I do have my photos on my PC but my actual blog posts, I don't. I would suggest at least once a week to back your posts up or twice a week if you post frequently.

Which in turn brings me to this post. Do YOU backup your blog in the event it's compromised or deleted?

I am self-hosted so my host backs up once per week and I also have a plugin that sends me a copy of all files once per week.

That's a bummer. Wordpress.com (the free blog site) can be a real stinker.

wordpress has an export function. I just did it now - lol. It doesn't back your photos, it seems like. I would have to test this by creating another site and importing it.

I should do this every so often.

Always always always back up everything, once a week at the least. Host one copy on your server and one copy on your personal device, so that in the event your server crashes and burns, you don't lose your backups too.

I usually keep 6 months worth of back ups on my computer, and the past month's worth on my server. I have had sites be deleted/hacked/wiped/server errors, you name it, so many times that at this point it gives me anxiety if I don't have back ups. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

ETA: SPeeelling, how do it?

ETA2: If you are not hosted on your own server (if you are on the Wordpress site or what-not) the keeping a copy on your server part wouldn't make sense, so just keep a back up on your own device.

I don't, but I believe my hosting does. Moreover, since I write posts in One Note first, I have copies of older posts. However, since I recently moved my blog to Wordpress, and there is a plugin for backing up site content, I'll probably start doing that.

I honestly have no idea how I would even go about doing that on blogger, but it's definitely a good thing for me to start looking into!

@@MissJexie - if you go to blogger.com -> Setting -> Other in "Blog Tools" section there is "export blog" option. I believe it allows you to download posts and comments, but not the template. There is "backup/restore" button for templates under "Template" tab.

Make sure you have a developer backup your blog. If you don't export your files and databases correctly you might cause even more pain for yourself... Wordpress has a couple of nice plugins that can do that for you, but I guess it just depends how your website is hosted!

best, Zan
