It lists a lot of well-known haircare brands that apparently contain Cocamide DEA (a carcinogen). Brands include Carol's Daughter, Ouidad, Lush, etc. Any thoughts?
My thoughts are: 1. Wow. Scary. 2. Holy crap. That's in probably 75% of the shampoos and shower gels sold in the U.S.A., everything from high-end to dollar store products. 3. They left out a lot of brands. 4. CEH promotes cruelty to animals. Quoting from the article: "California listed cocamide DEA in June 2012 as a chemical known to cause cancer based on the assessment by The International Agency for Research on Cancer, which evaluated skin exposure tests on animals."

Great, one of the organix shampoos that is sitting in my shower right now is on this list. Who know what else I've used that could be on this list, I switch it up a lot and don't keep track of all of them.

I am so glad I switched to a natural shampoo bar (mine are by DressGreen.net). My hair is happier and seems stronger/more protected. I do wonder what other products I might still have that contain it. Is this just in bath and body? Or also things like make-up.

I just looked at dressgreen's website, I noticed their shampoo is shampoo bars. How does that work? How long do they usually last you? After finding out that both my and my fiance's shampoos were on this list I want to switch to something more natural, but I'm apprehensive since I have thick oily hair.

I have used them two ways:

1) I used to rub it on my hands in the shower then rub my hands on my hair. This took a while, but I liked the process so I did not mind.

2) My husband used it and was just rubbing the bar on his hair.

Now I kind of use a mix. I rub the bar on my hair where I can, making sure to run the bar under the shower if it starts to feel dry, and put it on my hands for hard to reach spots if I need to. They do not lather tons like liquid shampoos, but they have not of the sulfates (and I think those are the big lathering ingredients), but they do keep your hair clean and allow your natural oils to normalize without stripping them all out. I no longer condition, but my hair does not need it. My hair is pretty oily at the roots, but I find that this shampoo bar keeps it under control. It kind of seems to act like a much better version of those 2 in 1 shampoo & conditioners because it cuts down the oil in oily parts and condition my drier ends (I have very long hair so there can be quite a difference from root to tip). Obviously I cannot speak for what it will do to anyone else's hair, but I think it is worth a shot. It only took about a week for my hair to get through the slightly awkward stage with it. Basically, I washed my hair with it twice in that time and I find that I wash my hair about twice a week with it now as well. Even when it gets oily now, it does not get as oily as before.

Oh, and I think one last me about 3 months. I had two, one was a little more than half gone, and the other a little less than half gone when I re-ordered, and my husband was occasionally using them as well, so that is kind of an estimate. I think they might have one for oily hair as well and they are pretty good at responding if you need to ask questions as well.

Thanks for sharing this information.   I had breast cancer in 2013 and although I am clear now I am still very careful with what I use, ingest, etc.

Curious to know if you have seen any follow-up and whether or not there has been a recall on the listed products? I have not been able to find anything.
