I recently got quite a bit of Julep polish, and while I am pleased with the colors, the paint on my nails lasts one to one and a half days before it peels off. This is even with top coat. Actually, the top coat makes it seem to peel even worse! Getting so frustrated almost want to trade it all away but I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems, and any possible solutions to the peeling?

Honestly I haven't been using a base coat, but I've never used one in my life and never had these kinds of problems. It's such a bummer too because the colors are fantastic

I've had this problem with several Julep colors, but not all of them are this bad.

I've tried SO many different combos of base and top coats.  The only thing that has kept it from peeling off my nails is to use Sephora's formula X base and top coats (but I also like and switch off with Julep's freedom top coat too).  I also always use the nail cleaner by Sephora formula x as well.

One thing about Julep polish, you can't get it right next to the cuticles.  Leave a tiny rim of nail next to the cuticle.  If it gets on skin, water and air seep in, and it peels right away.  Others might not have this issue, but I have with every Julep I've tried (100+) over the last 2 years.

I went through half a bottle of orly rubberized bonder stuff, and it was turning my nails a weird orange stain (because it is orange) and I had a lot of problems with staining from my Julep colors.  It didn't seem to help the polish last much longer than usual either.

A lot of people swear by Orly bonder, but it didn't work for me.  Some people love Seche Vite, but I don't feel comfortable with all the chemicals in it.

Julep is pretty finicky.  You just have to play with combos until you find what works for your nails.  Everybody's nails/ph etc are so different that there wont ever be "the" combo that works, ya know.

I have this problem as well. I use Orly Bonder base coat and Sally Hansen top coat, but often within two days the polish starts chipping, and once it does, it starts peeling right off. I wash my hands before I polish, I keep the polish away from my cuticles - my issues always seem to start from tip wear, so I have been trying to wrap the top of my nails better. Good luck figuring something out, I haven't yet!

Just want to echo this.  When I first started using Julep, I only had Orly Bonder and Polishield and had peeling all the time.  I read about Seche and bought Vite and Clear and it worked a lot better so I thought that was as good as it gets.  But on a whim I recently picked up the Sephora X coats and I can get two more days of wear now.  It's been night and day.  The few times I've used Butter's Matte Finish topcoat instead on some of the new Julep finishes, the colors don't last nearly as long as when I use the Sephora Formula X.

I now use Formula X base and top coat. It dries super fast and the shine and hardness on the top coat is amazing. The only downside to Formula X is when you get towards the end of the bottle it is difficult to get the last bit of product out because of the length of the brush. The top coat also becomes a bit thick and stringy, but not a bother to me because of the quality of the product overall.

Really can't understand the Julep craze. Bought a 3 month sub and I am gonna just get other products besides polish. Have julep polish on right now and the quality is lower than that free Sinful colors polish we got in our pinchme boxes.

I got that Sinful Colors for a $1.5 at Riteaid. It dries fast, gets no blanket impressions even an hour after application of its first coat, and only needs one coat for the dark colors. But it does wear off the nail edges fast. But, this cheap polish is still better than julep's.

Julep:

Dark julep colors need two coats

After first coat, 4 hours later it gets blanket impressions

Next morning it is chipping like crazy

Never could get to 2nd coat before the first was trashed.

Yup, I have to remove 1/2 day old julep polish... And to be honest, there is only one other polish i recall leaving blanket impressions after a first coat only, and after 4 hours drying before bed. And it was that Sally Hansens garbage. First coats should dry super fast.

Well, back to CND one week polish... Except that stuff is hard to get off. Bought 100% acetone now. Lol....

I dont like the Julep top coat at all, to be honest. I use an orly 2 in 1 top/base coat and it generally keeps the polish okay.
