What are the best oils for dry skin?  It has sometimes been found that a skin oil can be as effective or even more effective than a lotion.  While that opinion is controversial, and some doctors believe there can be bad effects.

Hello Friend,

Obagi-C Rx is a best oil for dry skin. Obagi-C Rx Systems promote skin rejuvenation from the inside out using a formulation of prescription-strength 4% hydroquinone, which reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots, combined with the powerful antioxidant Vitamin C - the only topical antioxidant proven to stimulate collagen synthesis and protect skin by minimizing future skin cell damage. It is best medical oil of obagi to protect Dry, normal, oily, or sensitive skin.

Olive oil proves to be the best for dry skin. It proves to ve quite effective and after using it, you will find your skin glowing and free from dryness.

Jojoba oil for sure- it mimics the sebum in your face, and is both an emollient and an occlusive. I think you can get a golden version and a clear version- I heard the clearer version is good for the face, but I'd use either, personally.

You can rub a few drops directly on your face.

Also, I heard rosehip oil might also be good for oily skin.

Neither of these breaks out my skin.

I LOVE Marula oil!  Not only is it excellent for dry skin, but the purchase of it supports rural African women with sustainable income.

I would suggest you some best oils which is very good for skin. Dry skin is a sign of Omega-3 deficiency. our skin is a outer reflection of our inner inside. So the oils best for our skin is almond oil, jojoba oil, olive oil and coconut oil. As per me coconut oil is the best moisturizer, also called anti-aging moisturizer.

There are many wonderful oils that can be used as a carrier along with Shea Butter. (Notice the term, "carrier".) My favorites are Avacado and almond.

I am planning on making my own body cream. And here are the ingredients that I plan on adding amongst others:

  • Shea Butter
  • Almond Oil
  • Avacado oil
  • Portulaca extract
  • Manuka honey
  • Royal jelly
The Portulaca and Royal Jelly are what I feel are the most important anti aging aspect of the cream.  You can look up each of the ingredients that I have chosen for their properties, but let me show you those two.

Portulaca extract is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and flavonoids. This plant has incredible health benefits, for both internal and external use. In skincare products, Portulaca extract has known strong anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties. Clinical studies have proven its tumor growth inhibiting properties. It immediately calms sensitive, itchy skin. It is a natural source of the vitamins A, C, and E, and the co-enzyme Q10. As an antioxidant it fights premature aging and protects from environmental skin damage.

When it is fresh, royal jelly is about 60 to 70 percent water. Its other primary components are major proteins: amino acids, including all the amino acids that are essential for human nutrition; sugars, mostly fructose and glucose; lipids; minerals; and vitamins. Royal jelly's fats, suspended as a natural emulsion, have moisturizing properties, protect skin from dehydration and reduce inflammation. Amino acids are a component of collagen, which keeps the skin firm. Cosmetic functions of royal jelly, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, include improving the appearance of wrinkles and stretch marks, boosting elasticity and firmness, and normalizing the fat secretions of skin glands to reduce oiliness. Royal jelly also has antibiotic and fungicidal properties.

So what I am trying to show you is that a multi ingredient product can do so much more than a single oil. In fact, many oils alone will just clog your pores.

Hi there!

I currently use both, Josie Maran's Organic First Cold-Pressed Argan Oil & Tarte's Maracuja Oil. I use the Argan Oil for the essential fatty acids. I found that the Maracuja Oil is fantastic at removing the flakes you get from the initial Retin-A "flash Burn".

One thing to remember is that if you are using a moisturizer, please apply the oil on top of your moisturizer. Moisturizers can't penetrate oils, but the oils can penetrate the moisturizers.

Both oils I mentioned are essentially "dry oils". They are not greasy on the face. Josie Maran also makes a lighter version of the Argan oil in which she has broken down the oil molecules making it even quicker to absorb into skin.

Also, a little goes a long way... Not much is needed.

Thanks for your time & attention.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any additional questions.

I recommend combining vitamin E oil and vitamin C oil for the perfect moisturizer! They provide antioxidants, they protect u our skin from sun damage, they moisturize; and heal. A quality coconut is great als o! Tropical Traditions have the best quality coconut oil! You can moisturize your hair as well.

I suffer from dry skin a lot in winter, and really need to work hard at keeping my skin in good condition. I find that a mild exfoliation is best for getting rid of any dead skin, which I then follow up with a light cleansing product. To really hydrate my skin I apply a thick moisturizer at night and allow it to soak into my skin as I sleep. Vitamin C tablets also help to add a glow to my skin.

Hi Maidlum - have you tried Chemical Face Peels?  These are fantastic for evening out your skin tone and exfoliating those dry skin patches.  Start with a low % and work your way up.  In a matter of weeks your skin will be glowing.  With regards to oils or their counterpart, I would suggest you invest in a good Hyaluronic Acid to apply before your moisturizer.  There simply isn't anything better to hydrate your skin.  Hope that helps!

I personally love the nude pro-genius oil. I've never had any issues with it thus far. I've only been using it for 7.5 months but already a firm favourite. Before using this though I was never one to jump on the oil train, i didn't see the benefits being as good as my moisturiser. Now I'll switch out my moisturiser now for this oil. Full size bottle is in my opinion pricey but so far it's a winner. I am by no means an expert on facial oils but I recommend this one. Oh i've got sensitive combo (more on the dry side than oily) skin. Hope this helps :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Depends whether it's for your face or body. For my face, I'm in love with rosehip oil 'cause it moisturizes without being super oily (it sinks right in!) and argan oil for when my skin's really dry.

For the body, avocado oil ROCKS. It's super moisturizing, which is perfect since my body skin tends to get a whole lot drier than my face. Other more common oils like coconut oil or even butters like cocoa butter really don't do much especially during the dry, winter months (for me, at least). Avocado's been the richest, most nourishing and long lasting oil I've tried.

The key here is hydration. In general, I do not think oils are better than lotion for dry skin, but there are exceptions. For instance rosehip seed oil has a very high absorption rate, however I am unsure as to how well it hydrates the skin. Thus, from a hydration stand point, I recommend lotions.
