I am getting tired/frustrated with ipsy and am looking for another makeup subscription box. I have birchbox and have tried rainbow honey, but I am curious if there are any other subscription boxes in the lower price range that anyone would highly recommend. Thanks!

Sample Society has undergone a revamp!  I highly recommend them now.  Allure magazine people are curating the boxes now.  The July and August boxes had a fairly balanced assortment (hair/lips/nails/fragrance/face in July, hair/lips/nails/eyes/skincare in August), and it sounds like they're planning on continuing this kind of variety in future boxes.  I canceled them a year ago after getting multiple skincare-heavy boxes, but this new curation has me back because it's exactly what I wanted out of them.  It's $15, and you get a $10 credit on any purchase over $50 each month from Beauty Bar.  It's a higher price point, but if they can keep this up, it will continue to be worth it.

Beauty box 5 is one of the lower price sub boxes. It's $12 a month on a month to month, but if you buy a 3 month you can get it for $10 a month. I believe there is a code to get your first box half off floating about.

I've gotten the past two months boxes and so far I think they are good. Not as high end brands as say birchbox, but not heard of people getting product that had health/safety concerns like ipsy had. I finally had enough and dropped them. The only thing I'm missing are the cute bags...

Starlooks starbox is $17 a month...they only send makeup.

Okay, once they sent makeup remover. But their cosmetics are really good quality. They will push you out of your comfort zone, but they also give you some look tips.

Another option- which is $23 (yes I know you said $20 or under) is lipfactory. It's a really awesome box and they only send makeup (sometimes nail polish) and I never receive boxes where I don't love more than one thing. It's mostly brands I've either never heard of or never tried. I always feel like I get what I paid for and they do an all lips box every 3 months-ish.

petit voir is one (eco friendly beauty box) 15.00

Starlooks is great - that is under 18.00 - this just has their products in it.

there are others, but you stated makeup, and I am not sure if you are interested in boxes that also have life style (non-makeup) items.

@@biancardi - I'm kind of curious what lifeste boxes are under the $20 range that have been decent. Perhaps I should make a new thread...

For now I feel like I have a decent stockpile on makeup.

Second vote for Lip Factory. I've been subbed to them for close to two years now, and have never received what I personally consider a dud box. Almost always it contains full sized products, once in a while a foil, but they are extras in my book. A few repeat brands, but new brands are common. My #1 favorite subscription.

I would prefer that the box has some makeup, but a lifestyle item or two would be ok.

yuzenbox is a quarterly sub at 33.00 a quarter - it has beauty products (bath, body), usually one makeup item, food, lifestyle (like candles)  It is an eco-friendly box

eco-emi is another eco-friendly box - 15.00/month - has bath, body, makeup, lifestyle, food - they have a lot of etsy vendors featured in their boxes, so that is a nice change of pace.  Many people complain about eco-emi because the value isn't there, but I like it because of the etsy vendors.

gourmet body treats is 19.99  and it features their products only - vegan, eco-friendly, etc.  They have bath, body, makeup items.

glossybox is 21.00 a month and features more recognized names and is bath, body, makeup

blush mystery box is 25.00 a month and features bath, body, makeup.  Some full sized, some deluxe

fortune cookie soap is bath & body - they do perfumes, branching out into skin care and now hair care - all their own stuff - this is a quarterly sub at 19.99 (their fall box looks amazing!! )

I am either currently subbing or have subbed in the past with the above companies.

then there are a slew of indie companies - if you check out the thread about "Down the indie rabbit hole" - - there is a spreadsheet there with all of the indie companies, what they produce and if they do a monthly sub.  I just got into Notoriously Morbid and am so excited!!  I did brazen cosmetics for 6 months and those were really nice as well.

BoxyCharm is $21. It looks really, really good if you want all makeup and are willing to go $1 over $20! I think they have been including better brands and such and I'm sad I got SampleSociety instead of Boxycharm this month because the box looks so awesome!

I know in the past they sent out a full-sized Tarte cheek stain.

Go check out the August Spoilers in the boxycharm thread if you're interested!

I like Starbox as well. Their color selection can be a little bright, but you win some and you lose some with sub boxes.

I also like e.l.f. Beauty Bundle. It runs around $26 every two months. I know some people say they can buy the items cheaper when e.l.f. runs a sale, but they have sent me some really great stuff I would not have otherwise purchased for myself.

Glossybox is an all-time favorite though they don't send solely makeup.

I second the beauty bundle. Getting my next one tomorrow :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I would reccomend Sample Society and Boxycharm.

Both have been very great recently in the past couple of months!

Boxycharm used to be SO bad so don't look at any of the old reviews, but their new boxes with the new box packaging is WAY better!

Sample Society got really good also in the last two months.

Good luck!
