Hello all!

My job requires that I wear a full face of makeup (including full-coverage matte foundation) outside when the heat index is often over 110. I also have to do quite a bit of dancing/running/skipping. Basically, I apply my makeup at 6:30 in the morning and do little physical activity (mainly just standing around and walking) from 9:30-1. I then have to dance/skip/run around from around 3-3:45. Also, I have to wear an outfit that isn't very breathable and I have a LOT of hair that is on my head and down my neck (non-negotiable). Sorry for some weird vagueness, but my job is a little secretive.

Anyway, when I'm doing my big burst of physical activity around 3, I sweat. A LOT. I'm not talking glistening. I'm talking big drops of sweat pouring down my face, into my mouth, onto my neck, onto my chest... everywhere. I've always sweat more than your average female. I have seen a dermatologist about hyperhidrosis, but I'm not wanting to undergo botox for my facial issues. By the time 3:45 rolls around and I'm done, the rest of my makeup has held up, but my foundation looks blotchy, since I've been practically swimming.

I've used Revlon Colorstay for combo/oily skin and Picture Perfect foundation. I always use Ben Nye Translucent setting powder and Ben Nye Final Seal. However, my level of sweating is so severe that it seems nothing stands a chance. Any recommendations for sweat/water proof foundations?

I have your same sweating issue (I also have hyperhidrosis) and as far as I know, there is no commercial makeup that will work. A stage foundation is the only thing I know of that would be completely matte and sweatproof, but I haven't worn one of those in ages. Possibly one of your coworkers would be familiar with potential brands, or if you go to a theater/costume shop they could help you out.

Is there not someone who helps you at your job who could suggest theatrical makeup brands that might work? If you didn't have to be matte, I could help you a lot more, but matte + sweating does not comply. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Have you tried BareMinerals Original foundation? I think some people have luck with that- although it's not technically waterproof I hear it is pretty good through sweating.

Or, alternatively, if you can't find a good waterproof foundation, have you tested out primers and setting sprays?

I'm thinking of Urban Decay All Nighter spray or their Deslick spray.

The Picture Perfect foundation I've used several times is stage makeup, and even it can't hold up! My coworkers, as a whole, use foundations I've tried before, but none of the ladies seem to sweat as much as I do, so they don't work well on me.

We do have cosmetologists who help us out, and I've asked for recommendations. They recommended either the Picture Perfect Foundation I've already used or Mac Studio Fix Fluid, which doesn't come in my shade (NC15 is too dark for me, but I definitely have yellow undertones). Thank you for your help!

Our cosmetologists "forbid" BareMinerals due to how it photographs. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I've yet to find a primer that really helps me. Any recommendations? I use Ben Nye Final Seal as my setting spray, and it definitely makes a difference. Unfortunately, my sweating is so severe that it doesn't help completely.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, Foundation, Setting Spray, and Powder all at once hasn't failed me in Oklahoma heat+long car rides w/out air conditioningg. Although I will say I don't sweat very much. I would think stage makeup would work the best. I've heard good things about Kryolan's foundations but I've no experience working with any kind of stage makeup.

Rimmel Stay Matte primer irritates my skin and the foundation doesn't last more than 5 hours on my skin doing normal everyday things in the heat, never mind working for 10 hours. :/ Thanks for the suggestion though! I will definitely look into Kryolan!

My sister in law used to have a job similar to yours working in one of the mouse theme parks in Japan. Similar weather conditions as well, plus about 99% humidity in the summer.

I asked her what she did to keep her makeup intact.

Her advice:

apply a generous amount of loose powder BEFORE putting on your foundation. Finish off your makeup with another round of setting powder and a spray fixative.

Her go-to foundation was Coverderm classic waterproof.

She also recommended MAC Face&Body Foundation, which is waterproof (supposedly different than Studio Fix.

She says Make Up For Ever also has a waterproof foundation that is matte.

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll certainly be looking into all of these suggestions. I'll try applying loose powder first today.

It sounds like your sister and I have similar jobs in different parts of the world.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you say you sweat the most during that 45-minute period when you're dancing and running around, correct?

If that's the case, could you perhaps try applying the Ben Nye Final Seal right before you begin that segment of your day (as opposed to right after you apply your makeup), to ensure it's "fresh" and has maximum "holding power"?

I also agree with the suggestion to powder your bare skin prior to applying foundation, but in my experience, the TYPE of powder you use is really important. What works best for me (and others I have recommended this method to), is essentially a powder primer...a powder that only contains the main ingredients you'd find in a primer, but in powder form. In other words, not a talc-based powder, or a powder containing pigments, etc.

I'm aware of two I can recommend. The first is e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in "Sheer" (http://www.eyeslipsface.com/studio/face/powder/high_definition_powder). It contains Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Tin Oxide, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, and Sodium Dehydroacetate - the Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone is a powder silicone which fills pores and fine lines, and the Silica absorbs moisture (the other ingredients are bulking agents and a preservative).

The other is a product called "Wrinkle Blur" (http://www.makingcosmetics.com/Wrinkle-Blur_p_112.html). It contains Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, and silica (essentially the same thing as the e.l.f. powder, but less expensive).

Whichever one you choose, I would recommend you apply it liberally to your skin prior to foundaion application, let it sit a bit, then dust off the excess product before proceeding with your foundation. To use as a finishing powder as well, apply liberally, let sit, then dust off the excess.

If possible, it might be a good idea (if you have the time to do it right before your "active" segment begins) to gently blot your face with blotting tissues, reapply the powder (either the e.l.f. HD or Wrinkle Blur), let it sit for a moment, dust off the excess, THEN spray with Ben Nye Final Seal. You could probably do this in 2-3 minutes (if you can take a quick break) right before you're "on."

Hope this helps!

Try the Valley Girl foundation by L.A. Minerals. I'm a runner, and I wear it when I run for coverage and sun protection. Stays put! I've swam with it on and it's still there!

I mean sure if you blot with a towel you'll see it on the towel, but no blotchy skin.
