I had a biopsy, and the incision is about 3" long. The instructions are to keep it moist while it's healing with any kind of ointment (like Vaseline/Aquaphor) to prevent scarring and bandage it to keep the ointment off my clothes, or I could use something like Tegaderm as a dressing. Does anyone have any experience using Tegaderm on an incision (or in general)? Any ideas which results in a less visible scar? Thanks in advance!

That's a good question, actually.  I'm not sure what would be ideal for that particular kind of scar.  I had a similar sized one after a mole was removed from my arm as a teenager, but they didn't really suggest much back then other than a few ultra sound sessions afterwards.  Several years ago though, when I had a spaghetti-cooking accident (yeah.. rather embarrassing), I was told to apply Polysporin +H to my burns which seemed to help quite a bit.  The pharmacist I went to recommended their 'healing' line of products.  There's probably a few ointments on the market that are also similarly effective, too.

Thanks! I was dreading what it would look like when I removed the bandage today (I wasn't allowed to peek for 24 hours), but it's not as bad as I had expected (phew). It will be hard to tell for sure until the bruising goes away. I gave the Tegaderm a try, and it's a lot more comfortable than a regular bandage, especially under clothes. I'll let you know if it works!

In the meantime, I will try to locate some of the Polysporin +H. I hear that most studies have concluded that Mederma doesn't work any better than Aquaphor, which is fine by me considering what they charge for Mederma.

I have had really good luck with Mederma healing similar scars.  I use Mederma kids (its a light purple) at night.  They also recently came out with a nighttime use intensive formula but I haven't tried that yet.

Hmm...sounds like they changed the formula? I'll check it out, thanks!
