I hit pan last week  on my Be a Bombshell blush from April 2013 and the pan REEKS. It's a very pungent, metallic smell and I am not comfortable putting the product on my face. I never noticed a smell until the pan started to show.  It was so strong that it transferred to my blush brush. I opened my Bora Bora shadow from March 2014 for the first time in months, and the quad has the same metallic stench despite barely using it since I opened it.

Is this a problem that has been noted on MuT before?   I no longer subscribe to Ipsy because of the Pop gloss and the BaB mascara quality issues, and now I think I should throw everything else from Ipsy away because it's the only way I know I won't have a problem in the future.

I've never heard of this issue until now. The products are made in China and depending on the manufacturers standards the quality of ingredients or even the packaging maybe inferior.

Zadi I almost pm'ed you about this actually. I just don't even know if it's worth contacting someone at BaB or Ipsy over.  I thought maybe a pan smelling different was normal but I just couldn't believe the smell transferred over to my brush.

I'm not a fan of Be A Bombshell since the whole mascara incident that came after the Pop Beauty lip gloss incident. When I have reported about BaB products I did make mention that the products do come from China from a private label manufacturer so for those that avoid companies like that then BaB is to be avoided.

I had no clue about the BaB issue with the mascara until I opened mine like 2 days ago. I dont know if its too late to complain about it. After all these issues  I definitely dont want any BaB or POP beauty products.

That is one of the main reasons I quit Ipsy. I was getting BAB in every bag...Yuck!

I have only been with ipsy a few months, so I recently received my first Be a Bombshell product.  It's the eyebase, and it's in an acrylic pot with no metal so that's good, based on what you said about their metal pans.  The product doesn't have a smell or anything bad quality control wise that I can see.  And I actually really like the color.  My only real complaint is that it creases terribly, even with a primer, which is a huge letdown.  It seems like an improvement based on what I've heard about previous products, though!  Scary!  Especially after all that stuff went down recently with lead in Chinese toys and stuff.  I was thinking about tossing the eyebase anyway because of the creasing, but I definitely may do it now after thinking about all that.

BaB has such crappy quality, in my opinion.  I do still occasionally use my "Sweet Cheeks" blush, but I have a dupe color now so planning to throw it away.  The other item I have is the "Shameless" lip pencil, but that's starting to smell funky so I'll be pitching it soon.

Unfortunately, BaB seems to be one of those brands that is just not great quality.  I would recommend throwing away anything that seems stinky or in any way "off".  Up to you if you want to contact Ipsy or BaB directly!

Yeah, I haven't noticed a bad smell but I have noticed that both of the blushes I have and the lip crayon are starting to feel kind of grainy. I never use them anyway, so I'm going to toss them, tonight.

It's all just garbage. The eyeshadow I got had no pigmentation and the eye base creases like nothing I have ever seen before. I quit Ipsy because I was sick of getting bags full of crap.

I'm still locked in with ipsy, so I'm stuck with this junk, and I ALWAYS get BaB and Pop! I just immediately toss it, I don't even feel comfortable trading/donating it. Terrible junk!

This is exactly why I quit Ipsy. I ended up with SO much full size makeup that I felt like was junk and basically unusable, whereas with Birchbox I felt like even though I was getting smaller sizes, I was getting to try stuff I might actually buy in the future.

I remember the Be a Bombshell liquid eyeliner pen I got, ugh it dragged so bad and smelled kinda weird. So glad I was converted to Stila's eyeliner pen.

Can I ask what the deal with the mascara was?  Because mine is still sitting unopened.....

It seemed like every month there was some drama about things smelling rancid, exploding or just not working properly. After November I quit ipsy and got a second birchbox. While I might not love getting itty bitty lorde and berry eye liner pencils, I never worried about getting an eye infection from a Birchbox product.

One month I got a BaB product and a Hikari lipstick and I remember there was discussion that the two companies use the same private label manufacturer based on similar looking products on their site.  I looked at the packaging carefully and both companies are based in the same small town which is rather suspicious.  I don't know where Ipsy gets these companies, I don't think they properly vet them.

I think Ipsy grew in popularity SO fast that it had a hard time keeping up with demand.  I subbed from Dec 2012-July 2013 and Jan 2014 to May 2014 and the quality in those two time periods was so different (although we did get a red BaB gloss way back then too.) If you look from early 2013 back, there aren't so many variations and the companies were generally higher quality.  There were issues with several of those products but not like now.
