Having a crisis. Every day I use a max factor primer then a mix of white foundation and a max factor serum foundation on my face applied with a beauty blender dupe... Its been okay for ages but this past week there's so much patchiness. It driving me crazy, hate my face enough but this coupled with a few other things drove me to tears... Did it 3 times and this is the best I could get. What could be going wrong? I don't whack on much primer, I let it soak in... But my makeup just slides around on my face then of course goes patchy. . When I use foundation without mixing it does the same... Argh! So embarrassing today! Hope someone can help... Attaching images... Sorry for the face and crimes to rushed makeup and my poor uncontoured nose!

I've noticed the same happening with primers at times. It's tricky to get the look right when using a primer. Every time I skip the primer, the foundation looks so much better. It looks more uniform and my skin looks great without having areas that don't blend properly. I'm too impatient to use a blender or a brush so I just always use my fingers. I've just noticed that when I use a primer, the foundation goes on unevenly at times too depending on the foundation and the moisturizer/serum I used prior to the primer and also the primer. It's weird that it's happening to you now and not before though. Have you changed the moisturizer under the primer or don't use a moisturizer at all? I wonder if your skin has become more dry.  I find that using a moisturizer under the primer, helps with the unevenness for me even though it still is tricky at times. I know now that if I'm in a hurry, I just skip the primer because I don't have so much time to blend and blend to get the look right. Just using the foundation is so much easier and quicker for me.

hello,

How are you? first of, you are very beautiful.

There are various possible reasons why your foundation is patchy:

1. Dry skin. the weather is colder so that might be why its a new thing for you. so exfoliate your skin at least twice a week.

Make sure you are using  a moisturiser that is right for your skin so if you naturally have dry skin, make sure you are using a very creamy hydrating moisturiser, and if you have oily skin, make sure you are using oil free moisturisers or anti-shine serums .

2. what do you use to apply your foundation? is it a sponge or brush? do you wet the sponge before hand? well, you might be soaking the sponge with too much water. When this happens, the rubbery material of the sponge will prevent it from blending your foundation smoothly.

3. Oil and water do not mix, so if your foundation is oil-based , and your primer or moisturiser is water based, that might be another reason. same goes for silicone, so check the ingredients on your products and make sure they match.

4. Another thing is, when you apply your moisturiser, wait at least 5-10 minutes before apply your primer or foundation so the moisturiser can sink into your skin properly or else the foundation will slide off.

I hope this has been helpful,

Feel free to ask any more questions that you might have.

All the best,

Stacey :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hey everyone - thanks for your replies, never knew about the science of ingredients!

I cleanse and polish with Liz Earle/Sanctuary version depending on how skint I am :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I also exfoliate a few times a week with Superfacialist.

I just looked up all my primers and foundations, and apart from the Stargazer white one (just ordered a Mac tester instead they're all silicone-based/oil-based - I often mix white foundation into a pale one as am pale, then try to contour...I do leave my primer about 5 minutes at least but will do it longer.

I have:

Primers

Max Factor facefinity - silicone

Benefit Porefessional - silicone

Benefit That Gal - silicone

Foundations/creams:

Max Factor serumy one - silicone

L'Oreal Lumi Magique - silicone

Max Factor CC cream - silicone/oil - unsure which

Sephora 10-hour - silicone

Stargazer white - water-based, I think this could be the culprit when I'm mixing it into stuff - going to do my face now without it and see what happens...

Thanks all, I am now fascinated! Hope this works...
