I apologize if this question has been asked before (or a million times before LOL).

I am preparing to go to makeup school and I have a question about makeup kits. The school has their own makeup starter kit, which they say is high quality but no brand name on packaging. However, when I asked about refills (when I run out of a product) I got the deer in the headlights look. They told me no one had ever asked such a question. My jaw dropped.

So, do you choose a brand and mainly purchase from them when first starting out? Or do you choose one of your fave brands and then buy various different brands to stock your makeup kit? I'm guessing more of the second option but where do you get them? Through the brand's company, Sephora, Ulta, etc.? Please un-confuse me.

Thank you! I sincerely appreciate any help.

You're in a great place.  Companies like MAC, Makeup Forever, and others offer student discounts... Check the websites of your favorite products and see if there is a "pro" only section... there you might find information for student discounts and even amazing prices on student kits.

I just mentioned this in another post, the best kit is the one that you build.  Not brand specific but with products you love.  Now, that said, the school offers a kit and you might have to use it only to be in line with the other students and follow the instructor to the tee... and get the same results, but once you're out on your own, build your kit however you like it.

Hi there, I just joined the forum today.  I was just reading these comments and was wondering is it normal for makeup artists to create their own kit with products from different companies.  How do they get them at cost price or do they?  Sorry if thats sounds silly!  In ireland here if you want to buy a professional product they offer a package. It's all or nothing.  I'm a fully qualified Beauty Therapist and would like to do mobile makeup.

Thanks
