Hello,

I will begin this thread by saying that I am a 100% straight man, and am embarrassed as can be to be on this forum. However, I thought that this was one of the few places where I could come to get some dermatology advice so here I am. Here's the deal, I'm trying to look more attractive and have been in the process of losing weight for the last year, and have had some major progress. I have lost 60 lbs. in the last year, and my weight loss is going great. However, the weight loss has had 2 complications and it has the potential to cause one more complication.

Here's the deal I have some stretch marks and I need some ideas on some really good creme to get rid of them or at least to fade them to the point where I can't see them anymore. I have faded them a lot, but they are still quite visible and I need some tips.

The second problem that I have is that I am extremely pale, red-headed, and fair skinned. Therefore, now that I am losing weight I am noticing these really loud blue veins in my arms that look like this....

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-82IwWft2dvY/TnYrcjiFYyI/AAAAAAAAJrE/BH1Vs84GSGU/s1600/Blue+Veins.jpg

They are creeping me out, and I don't really know how to get rid of them. Please help!!

In case you guys were wondering, this isn't some half-baked attempt to pick up women. I really honest to God need help with this.

Welcome to MUT! Congrats on your weight loss. Most fair skinned people have visible veins so I wouldn't worry about it. Stretch marks are hard to hide and the never ending issue of how to get rid of them. I know some people say Strivectin cream works but I've never tried it. Most of us women just have to deal with them. Sally Hansen Airbrush spray is great at hiding imperfections in the skin though if you are looking for temporary coverage and they sell it in different shades (from fair to darker). Also MAC has body makeup for covering purposes. The Sally Hansen spray you can get at Target. Hope this helps.

Well I'm 5'11 and started out at 265 and now I'm 205 lbs. I started out at 45% body fat and now I'm 29% bf, so kudos to me. Would it be worth it to go to a dermatologist about this problem? I've heard that they have some really good medicated creams out there that can make the stretch marks almost invisible. For instance, I have some stretch marks on my arms but they are so faded that you literally have to be right next to be and I have to be in a very well lit room for people to see them. Could one of these creams at least get my stretch marks to that point? Also, would buying some type of fake tan help to hide the blue veins?

Yes dermatologist might have better creams than over the counter. I think they can do laser too. Self tanner would work but it's sometimes a pain to get it right so it's not uneven. Sephora has a lot of different self-tanners. I've yet to find my absolute favorite because they can be tricky to apply so that the look is natural (without obvious lines). Exfoliating prior to application is the key to help the self tanner go on more evenly. Also Jergens has a gradual tanning body lotion that is great for building a fake tan gradually.

and yes kudos to you on the weight loss, the stretch marks are something you can be proud of because you have achieved such weight loss. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20"> Many body builders have stretch marks too so it's not so uncommon/negative thing.

Yeah, well that's kind of an issue for me. I don't have that much money, and I'm sure that laser therapy would cost a couple grand. Also, luckily I haven't had sagging skin yet, but the way that I've avoided that is by applying this jergins lotion with collagen and elastic in it. So hopefully, I can avoid having to go under the knife. How much does that tan spray stuff cost?

Yeah, that's what I am doing is bodybuilding. I eat a high protein, low carb, low fat, and low calorie diet, and I lift weight and do cardio 3 times a week.

If you practice, try using a fake tanner, as that will help cover up the stretch marks until you can afford a more permanent solution.   Tan sprays, lotions are not that expensive - you can get them at your local drugstore, target, walmart.  Also, look and see if you have a tanning spray spa near you - they do full body spray tans.

Many women do not mind stretch marks or other types of scarring.  When I met a guy, I don't think about those things.

stretch marks will never go away.  They stay with you forever, unless you do something like laser.   They can only fade, but they are caused by the of your skin due to rapid weight changes and it is not reversible.  I got my stretch marks during puberty as I "blossomed" overnight - lol.  I never had a man complain about them nor did it stop me from getting dates, getting married and so on.

I also have visible veins and again, not one man I ever dated ever complained about it.  I think we look at magazines, with the air brushed photos and think it is abnormal, when in fact, is it natural, normal and I have to say, most people don't think it is a deal breaker.

Well the stretch marks make me feel very unattractive, and I don't like that. So I'm gonna buy the most expensive creams that I can in order to get rid of them, and fade them as much as possible. Also, I was reading this post last night and talked with my mom about this and apparently I can get some type of fake tan stuff, and they even make them for fair-skinned people. So I will definitely be doing this.

creams will never get rid of them - they are tears in your skin and the only way to get rid of them is laser.  You can fade them, but they will always be there...

Well again, I'm looking at the ones in my arms and they are so light that you can't really see them, which is fine with me. I've heard it's like $200 per month with the laser treatments which is quite expensive. My question though, is how many sessions do you have to have before they go away?

I do not know, as my stretch marks do not bother me and I wouldn't subject my body to laser treatments for that.

stretch marks will fade on their own in time.  Moisturizing stretch marks is not really going to help the ones you have - just help to prevent new ones.

Consume 300-500 calories more than usual

Eating 300-500 calories more than your normal intake may not be easy, but you must do it if you want to stop being skinny. Make sure you don’t do it just by overeating at once, but instead do it gradually over the whole day. You may also want to have a look at these foods and their calorie count so as to fulfill your daily requirement.

They bother the hell out of me. I'm almost worse than a woman when it comes to cosmetic issues. And you are wrong, I've already started using creams and they have faded my stretch marks tremendously.

Where did this crazy comment come from?

I am not wrong - I never stated you couldn't FADE them.  They can be faded.  However, the tears will always be there.  That will never go away and if you go out in the sun and get a tan, they will be very apparent.  Moisturizing just helps lubricate your skin and help speed up the fading process, but it won't remove the stretch marks - that is what I meant.    It will help prevent new ones.   I got the impression you thought that the creams would remove them - they won't.  Creams will never repair or remove the tears in your skin from stretch marks.  The best they can do is make them soft and lighten them.  But they will always be there.  You and anyone else touching your skin will feel them

No cream will remove a stretch mark  - it is a tear in the skin - you cannot repair that rip in your skin.  If you lose weight, it will look like it shrunk, but it will always be there.  Creams are not a permanent solution.  If you do not believe me, there are tons of articles out there that state this..Here are just a couple.

there are sites that state "remove" stretch marks, but when you read them, it is just fading them.  They don't ever really go away

I have always had issues using the self tanners- weird streaks, stains on clothing.  Instead I would recommend going to a tanning salon and getting a spray tan there. It is technically the same chemical that makes you bronze but it seems to stay in place better. I got the mystic spray tan at Total Tan. Check the web for coupons. No matter what the clerk at the counter says, chose the lightest color they have.

Agreed!!  I always use the tanning spray booth before going on vacation to a tropical zone, as I shun the sun as a rule but I look really out of place when I arrive there as white as I am.

I had savage stretch marks under my armpit from weight lifting and it was undeniably gross to look at in the summer. All throughout my hibernation period and months i used this argan oil body serum thingy that reduce the look of my marks. I read about it from another forum and used it, its called bioevolve argan oil. I dont know if it was my skin type, but it worked as a moisturizer and really lessen the stretch mark look.

Well done on losing the weight.  I am also losing weight, but much more slowly and I was told by all the other ladies in my support group that the best way to keep stretch marks at bay is to stretch exercise daily. it has worked for me together with rubbing jojoba oil in as a moisturizer.  Have a read of this: wellnesstoday.com/beauty/15-surprising-beauty-uses-for-jojoba-oil -

"Scar and stretch mark minimizer

Unsightly skin issues including scabs, scars, and stretch marks may be reduced by massaging the vitamin-E rich oil into the problem areas. Plus, it may speed the healing process of wounds and cause scars to fade over time."

it is reasonably priced and I think available on Amazon.  Good luck.

Congrats on the weight loss.

Since you are looking for budget tanning lotions, I recommend L'oreal Sublime Bronze line. I used several of the products from that line (tinted, airbrush spray, and the colorless gradual tanning lotion) and my experience was positive with all of them. I am currently using the colorless lotion with SPF20 and there is no streaky look, plus you can control the level of the tan with it. Only disadvantage is that it takes much longer to build a tan with it compared to other tinted products.
