So, I like to try to take care of my hair and look good, but recently it is in awful condition.

I have thick wavy hair, so it takes a lot of drying straightening. Also I have dyed it blonde for years now, I am growing the blonde out now so I am getting a natural ombre look which I actually really like, but I will be dying the ends again soon to maintain this look.

I have tried various shampoos and conditioners which are advertised for damaged hair, along with numerous hair masks, nothing sticks out in my mind to have worked wonders.

I have been using an Avon leave in treatment which I like because it smells wonderful but I don't think it makes it all that much softer or in better condition...

I also love swimming which I know really damages my hair.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks in advance  /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Have you tried It's a 10 hair conditioners? I've gotten samples from Birchbox and they seem to work well. My other favorite is 12 benefits. The 12 benefits is great to apply before swimming to protect the hair.

Mine was damaged when I had to undergo radiotherapy.  Brittle, breaking, "flat" and dull.  My hairdresser cut all the broken/split ends off and told me to invest in Pro Naturals, a hair repair system.  I did, got it in December 2014 and I still use it today. I follow the suggested regime of using this system for one week in every six weeks. The hair mask and the argan oil leave in treatment are fantastic and I use the argan oil after every shampoo, not just for the one week. This works out to be very economical because I use my normal shampoo/conditioner for the other 5 weeks, currently I use Optima Tea Tree shampoo & conditioner.

Swimming - my daughter is the swimmer. She wets her hair thoroughly and sticks a very thin plastic bag on her head and then puts on a swim cap.  This is sufficient to protect her hair.  After her swim she immediately rinses her hair and wraps it in a towel and drives home to a proper shampoo, condition etc. Her hair has not suffered from any chlorine/salt water damage - hope this works for you.

It's a 10 is a amazing. I am a hair stylist and this has to be my absolute favorite. Also try a redden hair treatment I leave mine in all night and wash out in the morning hair feels amazing after

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I will have to start trying all of these products and find what is best for me! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I've always wondered, does it make a difference if you only use one hair care line on your hair at a time or if you mix and match?

I like to use the shampoo and the conditioner from the same line. I've tried to mix and match and I don't like the results the same.

My Pro Naturals hair repair system allows me to use another brand for the other 5 weeks so I would say look at ingredients listed, as a rule of thumb I go for less ingredients the better.  I'd be really interested to see what Reija says.

I like to switch between brands but when I do, I still use the shampoo and conditioner together from the same brand. For example I might use a shampoo and conditioner from one brand the next two times washing my hair and then the third time, I use a different brand or clarifying shampoo to remove build up. The shampoo is the most important part. If it's over drying, or otherwise not the right match for your hair type, using a conditioner is not going to help as much. At least that is what I've found.

I did something quite by accident the other day - I used my Pro Naturals condtioner 1st and then the shampoo, then the hair mask and then the argan oil leave in treatment. It made my hair much smoother. The next Pro Naturals week I am going to go back to shampoo, conditioner, mask & argan oil and see whether the hair is just as smooth - interesting???
