Hello!

Total NEWBIE here.

40 yr old gal wanting some advice on foundation. I know it is hard to conceal/hide pores but as I get older I seem to be bothered by slightly larger pores on my cheeks by the sides of my nose. I have watch MANY a video on you tube on how to conceal this but it seems those "tricks" don't work for me.

I start out the day not looking to scary but by 3-4 hours later my foundation is POOLING in my spots/pores UGH.

Right now I am using Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer w/ GA Luminous Silk foundation. I dont need much concealer and that is really all I put on my skin (after my neocutis bioriche moisturizer). I have a "good" skin care routine I follow w/ rx products so I don't think it's that. I am looking for advice on good foundations that don't settle or primers that might be better than what I have.

I have tried POREfessional --- not impressed.

Any idea of things I could try?

I just bout EL double wear foundation hearing that it does not settle but I just love the COLOR match of my GA Luminous Silk.

I hope this is enough to go on. any advice would be great

thanks in advance

Trish

Hi Trish!

Welcome to MUT! The GA foundation is nice. It might be that the primer is not the right match for you. The EL foundation might also help since it's long lasting unlike the GA but it could also be the primer. Also do you set the foundation with a powder? Powder helps for the foundation to last fresher longer. Laura Mercier has a great invisible setting powder. YSL has a great pressed powder that is very light. I use it at times to set foundation and then for touch-ups during the day. It doesn't cake on which is nice.  It just creates a nice matte finish. YSL has a new primer out which is really nice. I got a big sample size from Sephora and it's very nice. It's overpriced ingredient wise but for some reason it really works well. Also Laura Mercier foundation primers are really nice. I've found that primers can be a hit and miss. Some primers actually accents my pores doing the opposite of what they are suppose to be doing. Maybe see if you can get some samples and try a different primer. Korres has an anti-aging primer which is also nice and I use it from time to time. EL Idealist has been my HG skin care product for a long time and it really helps to minimize pores. It's used under a moisturizer so it's not a foundation primer per say but I don't need a primer if I use Idealist under my moisturizer. It creates a nice smooth canvas for makeup and helps makeup stay fresh longer. A friend of mine who is an esthetician turned me into the product years ago. I tried EL CP+ R wrinkle lifting serum instead of the Idealist since I'm getting older and have more wrinkles but I prefer the Idealist.

Hope this helps and hope others have suggestions for you too.

I've been using True Match, and it really hides your pores and stays all day long.

I think that you should try some primer that is made for hiding pores and keeping your foundation pretty all day long.

I live by the Makeup Forever smoothing primer. My friend has very deep set pores on her nose and on her cheeks under her eyes and I put that on her and it was FLAWLESS. Not a big fan of the POREfessional because I don't feel like it does what it claims. Also, the mixture of the makeup forever primer and the Too Faced Born This Way foundation is amazeballs! Go to Sephora and ask for samples of both before you buy them. You'll love it!
