Microbeads will be removed from skin care products sold in the US starting July 1st, 2017. A law was passed banning microbeads which are typically used in scrubs. One of the main reasons for the ban is the fact that they are not Eco-friendly and end up in the oceans, potentially harming fish that try to eat the little beads. The beads don't disappear since they are plastic.

Here is the article on the legislation http://www.cosmeticsandtoiletries.com/regulatory/363869891.html

I think it's good news. I personally don't currently use any products with them in but it might be bad news for those who do. Maybe they can develop something else that is similar but made from materials that are more eco-friendly.

I've read that they're not that good for your skin either, since they're too abrasive no matter how small they are. So it's good news in that sense too, in addition to being much better for the environment without them.

Thanks for informing us Reija.

Seriously?? I guess I never gave much thought to it. I never really noticed that they were plastic. If that's the case, then I agree - they should be banned. I hope they find an alternative soon, though.
