Hello all, this is my first post on the forum!

So as the title states Im pretty much your average clueless guy that walks down the makeup isle and only recognizes 1/4th of the products.

So here is my situation. Ive been dating my girlfriend for almost a year now, one of the things I LOVED about her when I met her is that she didnt wear makeup often at all (Like im talking shes worn it 4 times since we started dating.) I really don't like the look of makeup, but no offense to all of you who love it, its just my personal preference. So with that said since she doesnt wear it often she doesn't own much besides cover up. Recently she has expressed interest in wearing some light, natural looking makeup.

With all of that said her birthday is coming up and I want to surprise her with a few things. So my hopes is that someone can help point me towards products that match this criteria.

Criteria:

  • Very light makeup (She doesnt want a 10 step process that leaves you with thick, plastered on coatings, the less products needed the better)
  • Natural looking and feeling (her friend did her makeup once and she used stuff that was greasy and thick, I did not enjoy touching her face with that stuff on, she hated it too) Ive heard bare minerals are good, light, and natural looking.
  • Wont break the bank, not looking to spend crazy amounts of things
I know its a lot to ask, but I am seriously clueless, so I really dont even have a starting point, so recommended products ,and the place to buy them would be greatly appreciated! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hi! Welcome to MUT! A tinted moisturizer might be a great option as makeup for your girlfriend. Tinted moisturizer just evens out the skin but doesn't make it heavy or look like she is wearing makeup. Laura Mercier is a really good brand for a tinted moisturizer. There are others too. Bare Minerals is a good brand for mineral makeup that is also not heavy. Sephora and Ulta sell mini kits with Bareminerals makeup that might be a fun gift. BB or CC creams are great options too. They are similar to a tinted moisturizer but with added skin care benefits.

Hi, what about a nice eye shadow palette? I think that would be a really nice present then she can go as light or heavy as she likes with the different looks. If you looking for a foundation then you will need her with you to shade match but good ones would be as Reija said bare minerals, laura mercier, I think gerda spillmann bio fond is a really good one. but if you were to go for an eye shadow palette I would recommend Urban Decay Naked 1.  :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hi! You are a very thoughtful boyfriend and I know exactly where you're coming from. You're very lucky to have such a natural beauty for a girlfriend. Why spoil it by caking on a bunch on unneeded product? Nothing wrong with a few light hints of color to enhance her natural beauty though. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I would suggest a Laura Geller Makeup Kit. The brand features great products that look natural but can be glammed up if you want, and best of all, she bakes her makeup, which means the product starts out as a liquid, instead of being milled and pressed into a compact. This promises denser and truer pigmentation, longer wear and easier blending. It also just produces a more natural finish, in my opinion. I've never seen it cake up on anyone or look heavy.

You can, of course, buy her makeup on it's own, but I love her makeup kits. For $30-40, you can usually get a primer, powder foundation, a blush, an eyeshadow duo, a makeup brush, a mascara, a lipstick, and a bronzer or highlighter, or any combination of those products. She's got about 4-5 different kits out at any time, to suit different tastes, price ranges and needs. And keep in mind, just one of her products is usually anywhere from $20-30, so since you're getting full size products in these kits, they are such a steal! I would HIGHLY recommend them! She can create a whole natural beauty look from one of these kits, neatly wrapped up as the perfect gift, or just use the lipstick and mascara on the go. It's up to her, and you get the brownie points! ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />@@jwhitts

P.S. Her Spackle Primers that come in the kits are my holy grail favorite primers and I also love her lipsticks!

I second a tinted moisturizer or bb/cc cream! The only thing you need to watch out for with them is matching her skin tone well, which can be tricky if she isn't with you to try them.

Something which can look absolutely stunning on makeup-less skin is highlighters, they can add a beautiful glow on their own! There are many powder or cream or liquid forms to choose from too :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> The most common is powder though. I would recommend some but i'm not from America so i'm unsure which brands are there that are best for a nice natural looking highlighter!

I also think a nice neutral eyeshadow palette would be nice, with everyday shades like browns, pinks, and creams.
