Essentially, it's a BUDDY reciprocal linking system with friends on your own FRIENDS/Buddies page.
This is how it works:
Let's say I have 6 buddies on my list (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and Grandpa), but only Homer, Bart and Maggie have
me on their buddy lists - then I'm linked to 3 people and they now become my 'Buddies' or 'Friends' (because the link has been reciprocated).
So, the number of 'friends' or 'buddies' is really those who have linked back
TO YOU - you can't make a friend by just adding them to your buddy list. You'll both have to link together (linked to / linked from).
- Linked TO are people who I have put on my buddy list
- Linked FROM are people who have ME on thier lists.
- Once you BOTH have each other on your 'buddie' list, the avatar(or the username if no avatar is used) shows up on both lists and hence....becomes your 'buddie'.
To view your "FRIENDS" page, simply look in your profile, or under your avatar in any forum post, or simply click your name anwhere on the boards. Once you are on your profile page, look for the words USERNAME's Friends or you and scroll all the way down on your profile page.

Instructions:
To add someone who has linked to you already:
- visit your own 'PROFILE' page by clicking on your own name anywhere on the board.
- look for 'YOUR-USERNAME's Friends' link(found just above 'about me' and visit your "FRIENDS" page
- when on your own 'FRIENDS' page, locate your buddies on the right side under 'Is Linked From'
- click on 'link' next to their name
- this links you to them.
