Is your tube fresh new? If so, leave it alone for a couple of weeks and the mascara should become a little thicker.. What do you mean goopy?? Like too much product on it?? You gotta brush from the roots upwards, and if you have too much product on the lashes just keep brushing up up up so that you don't have any blobs left anywhere.. Keep in mind that it is normal that this macara will leave a few sets of lashes clumped together, hence the spidery look that people talk about.. Personally I like the look, but if this look is not for you then don't use this mascara..
Oh yeah and I also find that this mascara doesn't hold the curl, but it's easy to curl it with the lash curler after the first coat has dried up. It works for me and it doesn't stick to the curler.
I also find that as the mascara gets old, the lashes become WAY too spidery and clumped up together, that's when you know that it's time to get a new tube...
