Precious time

Posted 12-17-2007 at 04:39 PM by Aprill
So, for the sake of drama I will not say specifically who, but I listened to a 911 tape tonight that broke my heart. The lack of awareness. All I am going to say is that it is imperative that EVERY person learn CPR so that someone in trouble may have a chance. I heard people waste 5 minuted talking amongst each other while the 911 operator called the lasy over and over again. He kept asking did anyone know how and they would not answer him. 5 minutes into the phone call, she finally decided to follow directions. Critical time lost. Please people, CPR is one of the best things that you can possibly learn.

I know that most of muters are now attracted to more trash than treasure, so even if you don't respond to my blog, please read it and learn something that can save someone's life.

Amen Sister. I took my First CPR class as a 13 year old candy striper. When I was 24 and before I went to nursing school. My father choked and he quit breathing. Because I knew CPR, I was blessed to have him for another 3 years after that.

Okay, I just heard the tape and I'm at a loss for words. It is so sad! I realize it was an emergency situation but you still have to LISTEN to instructions. Why call 911 for help and then ignore the operator? This is such a shame.

Thanks SO much Aprill! I took CPR classes before for adult and child CPR, but it was about 4 years ago. I need to take a refresher course, because I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I needed to save one of my children and couldn't.

and for those who have taken it in the past, the rules have changed in the past few years. Definitely take a refresher.

Yeah!! They changed the number of rescue breaths to compressions...... Used to be 2 and 15 and compressions went way up... Thought it was 2 and 30... Have to look at my notes but appearently moving blood around was more important the trying to force lowish oxygen air into someones lungs... And rhey changed the hand placement a bit too..

I learnt cpr as part of my life saving awards in high school. I'm so glad I have a vague idea of what to do in a high-stress situation.
