Today is World AIDS Day....get tested!!!

I wanted to post this because awareness of HIV/AIDS is very important for all to know. If you are having sex PLEASE wrap it up. Wear a condom, protect yourself and get routine testing.
Personally, when I did my clinicals, I did it in a hospice care place where I have seen first hand patients, young people, old people, middle aged people in their final stages of AIDS and it is the saddest thing in the world to watch.
In addition, African American women account for most of the new HIV infected cases. Meaning, my sistas, protect yourselves. Everyone needs to, but we are on the front lines of this war, and we are losing the battle.
There are many resources in EVERYONE's area to be tested and protected. I love everyone on here, each and everyone of you (for reals). I want everyone to be aware and take care of themselves.
HIV and AIDS does not have a face, the next person that you sleep with that you ASSUME is healthy, could have it. I will say it over and over again, protect yourself. Live your life to the fullest. Get tested. It is better to know than to not know. It can be treated and you can live a full life. I love yall, be safe.

I remember we had a class in med school 2 years ago (with like 30 students in the classroom) and the professor asked how many people had gotten an AIDS test before.
Exactly 4 people (including me) raised their hands. I highly DOUBT that the other 26 people always had safe sex in the past, so go figure. And those people are future doctors and should know better about the possible risk!!!! |
