W00T! Free camcorder!

Posted 02-02-2008 at 02:11 PM by Aquilah
Woohoo! Back when we signed up for Verizon FiOS, part of the "packet" was a free RCA Small Wonder Digital Camcorder if we kept the service. Well, we kept it!

I was getting anxious because I really wanted to get it and try to do a tutorial. I was actually thinking earlier today how I needed to check the status, and what showed up?! The camcorder!

Woohoo! So, I'm going to *try* to get in a tutorial tonight. I've been asked to do one on applying MMU, and then I said I'd do one about red lippies. Believe it or not, I've done both, but hated the end result of my webcam.

So, look forward to a tutorial or two coming your way from yours truly! I'm too excited! Seems like a decent bugger so far too!

So, this is what I've ultimately decided to do...

Posted 01-30-2008 at 12:52 PM by Aquilah
I was talking to the VP of Operations at the hospital I work at (she was the Exec. VP at the other hospital before we merged with this one).

Anywho! I told her I decided to go back this Fall for my Masters degree, and she recommended instead that I look into the School of Nursing program we have. She said there's more opportunity for me, and that I can make a lot more.

So, I checked into it, and she's right. It's a HUGE difference! I can either work as a Nurse, Nurse Manager, in Nursing Administration, etc. There's a HUGE market, and with my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management, I'd be highly marketable. And when I say huge difference in pay, I mean upwards of $30k+!

I'm meeting tomorrow with the Director of the School of Nursing. We're going to go over my transcript to see what credits would transfer and get me past that, as well as the application and whatnot.

I think it's a smart choice, because I can always go for my Masters later too. Not to mention, we do get tuition reimbursement from the hospital, and that would almost cover the entire cost. So, I probably wouldn't have that much out of pocket and could eliminate more student loans.

Anywho! Thought I'd share that tid bit of my life with you LOL!

Why I hate the State of NY and the DMV

Posted 01-30-2008 at 09:28 AM by Aquilah
So, here in this grand ol' state you have to have yearly vehicle inspections. No valid inspection, you can't register your car. You used to be able to still register it, but new law went into effect on 09/2007. I've been scrambling all damned week to get this done since my deadline is Thursday at 4pm. My inspection wasn't valid, and it's time to re-register the car. Oh fun!

I took the car to Bridgestone/Firestone, and they were going to do all of the repairs. The car was only throwing two codes (EVAP Shut-Off Valve & Knock Sensor), so they fixed the first one. They went to take care of the knock sensor, and realized the idiot who owned the car before me tampered with the wiring. They had used speaker wire or some mess. So, they didn't want to touch it and preferred I take it to the dealership. (I give them credit for this). Grand total at Bridgestone/Firestone was $785! However, part of the charge was for my lifetime alignment, replacing a lugnut, and cleaning the EGR Valve.

So, I rushed to Infiniti, and they said the car was throwing 3 codes. Bridgestone never cleared the EVAP Valve code, so we knew that was taken care of. But now it was throwing an O2 sensor PLUS that knock sensor. John wanted them to balance the tires, so they balance 3 of the 4 since that damned flat tire from last week won't even make a difference if they balance it. So, my grand total with Infiniti (including my inspection cost) is $875.

I should be able to make it to the DMV today since one here closes at 6pm. If so, then I can register it for $50, and the whole ordeal is over! Complete, kaput, and cost me a whopping grand overall total of $1710!

At least I have two years on my registration, and another year before we have the emissions inspection. I'm so glad this whole thing is basically over! I'll be even happier once I'm home with my car that I haven't had in 2 days without any worries for at least a damned year!

Seriously, this whole thing had me stressed beyond belief and ready to cry at any minute! Ugh! I'm not used to this crap since in Georgia all we have to do is get the car registered yearly! Bastard State of NY - Hell, any state requiring all of this crap! LOL!

I'm screaming inside... You might hear it too!

Posted 01-21-2008 at 03:38 PM by Aquilah
So, I leave work and go to Wal-Mart to get a few things for dinner. I walk out, and what do I see? A FREAKIN' FLAT TIRE! I call John and he said to take the car to the other end of the store to the auto center. (Mistake #1 IMHO after what happened when we moved here).

I get the car over there, and they almost didn't take me. They finally said they would, but that I wouldn't be able to pick the car up for 1.5 hours! I live not even a mile up the street! OMFG! So, I call John to come get me.
We get home, and not even 30 mins. later they call saying they can't plug the tire. Supposedly it's already been plugged before (BS! John's the one who put the tire on there, and it was perfectly fine when he put it on there not even 2 mths ago!), and then try to tell me I need a whole new tire. They can't touch my car aside from the "plug" issue because there's different sized tires on the front than back... Oh, I'm sorry... They must not have heard of SNOW TIRES!

So, John's picking the car up himself and fixing it with a plug kit. If it holds the air, I'm going to work tomorrow. If not, then I'll have to stay home, and ask my FIL to get me a new tire, so John can put the new tire on tomorrow night. I swear! It's like I shouldn't have gotten off work tonight! UGH!

It looks like I'll be the new Member at Large for Healthcare Management for the Business Association for my alumni! How awesome is that?! Here's the position description:
Quote:
Member At Large Health Management - Acts as liaison between the Association and members of the Health Management Community of Saint Leo COL; addresses concerns, seeks speakers, recruiters and facilitates the networking needs of the Health Management Saint Leo Community.
Unfortunately, because I am alumni, I can't be Chair. That's a-okay! I'm just glad I stuck with the Association, and now I can be an officer! Woohoo!
