MakeupTalk's Dedicated webserver slow loading pages.

Some of our regular users may be interested in this thread, some might not be


Server Loads:
Recently, we have noticed extra heavy server loads due to the number of people online. It seems that when we have 80 or more registered users online, we are seeing higher than normal server loads. This, in turn, causes very slow loading pages when refreshing or adding threads/posts/reviews/swaps and even sometimes the pages "time out" and don't load at all. In other words, M U T chokes! LOL Some users have asked about this in the support forums. This is most likely due to lack of hardware performance.


Past Donations:
The past donations and donators in the last 1-2 months are UBER:greatly appreciated!!! I has helped allot!! Those monies were combined with current M U T funds to help pay for the current webserver/bandwidth/traffic/software programming. The traffic has grown astronomically. We also hired a server expert to make adjustments to the server/database structure to optimize the pages for speed. MakeupTalk is receiving over 10 million page views per month with 3000-5000 new registrations monthly. We are growing and we thank you very much

Weighing Options:
So, we decided to go ahead and look into the upgrading and changing our webserver to a much, MUCH faster one that will serve all you mut'ers well so that you don't have slow pages(or non loading pages). The speed benefits are great with this change making room for future higher traffic making the M U T community more involved. The downside is, of course, the cost to do something like this. Since MakeupTalk is ia FREE non subscription based community, we decided to discuss openly what we are doing and allow you to respond and ask questions if you would like. Some things will kept private as in server/data center location for security reasons.

This is what we are currently looking at for NEW server specs:
Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz Processors (we currently run one)
4 gigabytes of RAM(we currently run 2 GB)
Two - 160 gigabytes SATA hard drives in Raid 1 configuration built for speed(currently run one slow IDE hard drive)
New Server Location: San Diego, CA


::: $400-$500/monthly
::: $599 setup fees
::: $350+ to migrate all the data to new server without site downtime

While we are still looking into this and weighing out the pros and cons, we would like to respectively request that if you love M U T and feel the need to help out in anyway, the staff of M U T would absolutely appreciate anything and everything you can do for us in the line of future donations. If you can help, thank you very very VERY much. If you can't we certainly understand and are happy to provide our M U T community to you all.
