Greetings From Newbie

Hello everybody.

My name's Maribelle and I'm new here.

Came across the site while doing some research and thought I'd have a look around and register.

The registration form didn't allow much room for me to really describe who I am or what I do. I always get frustrated by forms asking you to enter your occupation and only leave room for a single one word entry.

I am: a body piercer, body piercing instructor, phytotherapist, level III Reiki therapist, proprietress of a body art studio, product developer for J&B Bodyart Aftercare Products and writer.

I have am in the R&D phase of working on a botanical, vegan and ethical skin care line - you have no idea how hard that is. Good thing I enjoy doing research!

Been pulling a lot of late nights doing research and am feeling the pull to write a book about dangerous cosmetic ingredients - as I see them everywhere and most consumers (primarily women) have no idea what they should be avoiding for the sake of their health.

I am struck by the marketplace's apparent desire for healthy looking skin over the need for healthy skin. That says a lot about our society.

There does appear to be a shift back towards the reading of labels - this used to be popular in the 70's - which is encouraging. A good rule to follow is this - if you need a chemistry degree to understand the ingredients in the products you are either eating or putting on your skin, you shouldn't use it. If you had that chemistry degree, you'd know not to use it.

There also seems to be a return to handmade cosmetics. This is very cool. I'm of the school of "If you can't eat it, don't put it on your face" - your skin is after all an organ; it's not a fashion accessory.

Okay, true to form I seem to be working on a book here.

Perhaps I will compile a list of harmful cosmetic ingredients and post them here? Let me know if this is something you could use.

Be Well everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Thank you for the welcome. Muchas gracias.
Okay, I'll cut and paste an article I'm working on and enter it in one of the forums. Maybe it should go in more than one, as the ingredients apply to all cosmetic products.

Have an awesome day, Maiho!

Hello there and thank you for the welcome.

I'm not very clear on what the "My Editor" feature is for. What is it's purpose?

Gotta get home and dressed up for a party. My buddy Roben is having a St. Valentine's Day Massacre party and I'm supposed to be getting dressed up as a gangster moll. Let's see if I can pull this one off.

Happy Valentine's Day!

<~~~has a wierd fascination with the mafia tho lol

the My Editor thing is kind've like your own personal webpage thing via our site...you can put info about yourself or basically whatever you want in there. I'm not very good at describing it lol. Maybe Tony will come in here and make a lil more sense.

You can check it out by clicking here:

Welcome to the board! We are glad you joined us. Please post about the ingredients. I'm sure that would be very useful info for a lot of people. I got into reading cosmetic labels about a year ago and I'm learning about the different ingredients.

Hey Maribelle!

Warm welcomes from us here @ MakeupTalk.com. I'm Tony, lead project manager(programmer) for MuT(MakeupTalk). Altho I don't know Mac/Sephora well, I do know geeky shi!T

MyEditor?...........hmmmmm.................what is it? Well, we were all in a meeting one day and I had proposed an idea of allowing all the users of MuT to have a spot to list their "beauty product wish lists in HTML" and such. When I put the section together, I wanted it to be able to allow HTML (web language) to be passed through the editor to build a website that was much better than only TEXT. Hence, allowing users to actually have thier own website where they can upload pictures, make hyperlinks, type in colored text and/or tables with cool colored backgrounds. Basically to be able to put a website together without knowing the programming code(eeeek the code is tough...help?)

Hopefully you can get some use out of it. You said you were a body peircer etc. I am sure you have some peircings. Altho I am not into that, I would enjoy seeing some creativity with it.

How do you find people's MyEditor? You can do many things as:
  1. Member Search here
  2. Look at your profile here
  3. Look at Reviews AND click on thier names for the profile
Also, see the homepage of MuT here it will list out what MyEditor is

Here are some MyEditor's examples:
Mz Lala's
TinyDancer's
Kristin's

Wheeeeeeeeeeew! I hope that helps...let me know

Maybe I'll have a look at it when I have some time.

Hope you had a rockin' week-end!

Ciao.
