Applying stains

I'm hoping to get a lip and cheek stain, but I have no idea how to apply it. Any tips?

Re: Applying stains

stains on lips:

apply one coat on your lips make sure you're careful doing this and follow your lip line and the area of your lips you dont want to be staining your mouth instead of lips... one coat and see how you like the colour/intensity. if you think you'd like a stronger intensity, apply another coat until you reach the intensity you want. usually you dont have to apply more than one coat. however one thing about stains is that most of them dry reaaaaaallllllly quick. so if you realise the colour is too strong/too intense, blot!!! quick!! blot!!! blot the extra colour off if not its gonna dry on your lips and stain them for good (ok not for good but you get what i mean)

HTH!!

Re: Applying stains

a lipstain unlike lipsticks/glosses/ balms etc tints your lips and gives colour to your lips in the result that the colour will blend into your lips making them look totally natural. its sort of like a lip "dye" instead lip "paint". they are thinner in their consistency compared to l/s and l/g's and act like a dye to your lips making them coloured (to whatever the stain's colour is) but making them appear like that is their natural colour.

hope you got what i was trying to say. if anything was unclear, dont hesitate to ask and i'll try to explain it better!

Re: Applying stains

Is a lip stain the same thing as a cheek stain? I've seen at Sephora that Tarte has a cheek stain or something.

Re: Applying stains

I got a lip/cheek stain from The Body Shop. I like it on my cheeks, but not so much on my lips. If I apply less, it looks too light. If I apply just a bit more, it appears too dark. I don't really like that shade of pink.

Qn about stains: Do they make it in only one color? I know Body Shop had only 1 color, and that is pink. What about other brands?

Re: Applying stains

Well, I've seen that Tarte has a lot of different colors, but then again im not sure if it's like a cheek/lip duo or something if that's what you are looking for. LORAC also does a lot of different lip stain colors. I've seen them all and very curious, but im kind of scared to try them

Re: Applying stains

Lip stains and cheek stains serve the same purpose. However not all cheek stains can be used on lips as they might not be lip safe. Some brands like TBS ensure that their cheek stains are lip safe thus marketing it as a lip/cheek stain. However, if you see from the recent MAC See-Thru Colour collection, they had seperate lip and cheek stains. Lip stains coming in a tube like the usual lipglasses and cheek stains coming in a different packing which allows it to be applied more easily on cheeks. So, although lip stains and cheek stains serve the same purpose -- which is to "dye" the skin in a very natural looking way -- they may not necessarily be the same thing.

Also, lip and cheek stains definitely come in a variety of colours. Perhaps if you check out other brands besides TBS you'd get a better idea of the variety of the available colours. If its possible, look up on MAC's See-Thru Colour collection (of which the stains are unfortunately LE i think) and they'll give you a good idea about other types of stains besides those from TBS!
