Color coordinating?

I've always heard of cool, warm, & neutral colors. But I've never really understood it. I think perhaps that is the key to my current struggle.

In the past I always wore brown eyeshadows & bronzer/brown/peach tone blushes. My lip colors usually matched up with the blush & it looked great.

For the past year or so I've been wearing more eye colors & I find that while my blush looks great with the brown, earthy tones, it seems to clash when I wear pink, lavender, or grey eye shadows.

So let me ask you: when you wear pink, lavender, or grey e/s, what color blush do you pair with it? And do you pair a different blush with brown, earthy tone e/s?

In the past I've always avoided pink blushes, thinking they don't look flattering on me, but I almost feel like maybe that is what I'm needing?

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be very much appreciated.

(By the way, you can see my coloring in my pic to the left)

Re: Color coordinating?

Yes, with pink, lavendar, and grey eyeshadows...I always use a cool-toned blush (usually pink). hth!

Re: Color coordinating?

There's pink blush and pink blush. I actually really like pink on the cheeks, I think it looks youthful and pretty, and every skin tone has a girlie pink that works for it. As long as it tones with the rest of the colours you're using it should work.

Re: Color coordinating?

They're red/pink blushes..and brownish/pink blushes and more that can be used instead of just a cool pink...

Re: Color coordinating?

Pink comes in cool and warm tones - warm tone pink will have a yellow base where cool tone pinks have a blue base. You can still use your peach blush just smile and add a yellow based pink to the apple of your cheeks - it will not only add live to your face but, will work to help blend together the grey and lavendar e/s with the rest of your face - use a pink yellow based lip color as well.

I have no way of telling if it's yellow based or not.............are you at all familiar with everyday minerals or ocean mist cosmetics? that's who I'm wanting to get my new blush from...........

Re: Color coordinating?

Here's a suggestion:
Warmer colors - Bronzy/peach blush - I use MAC's Margin blush
Cooler colors - Pink sheer blush - I use MAC's Pink Swoon (it's sheer so you can build color and it looks just like naturally rosy cheeks).

Re: Color coordinating?

Have you tried EDM's Apple blush color? I just got some, so my personal verdict isn't IN on it yet, but the ladies I'm in EDM Yahoo group with seem to love it! It's pretty pinky. You may end up needing to mix a pink with the blush you use all the time. That could give you a nice base of your general coloring yet add a pink which will match the eye shadows better.

Re: Color coordinating?

well my blush is peachy and pinky, like Nars Orgasm (it's almost its lookalike). i find it goes with everything, maybe it suits me better with some e/s combos than others, but it doesn't really clash either, so i'm okay with that. i also like to change the amount of blush i put on my cheeks if i'm not sure it'll work.

I haven't tried it, but was looking at it online & thinking it might be just what I'm looking for! I wasn't aware of a yahoo EDM group.......I must check into that!! Thanks so much!

Re: Color coordinating?

I've been thinking the same thing for the last week; should I use different blushes for different eyeshadows and lips. I'm going to start. Forever, I've always used the same color blush.

Coming to these forums has made me more brave. I've always worn dark brown eyeliner too. I think I may try some navy blue and eggplant too.

yeah, I used to always wear dark brown eye liner & very earthy (brown with light neutral color) eyeshadows. About a year & a half ago I jumped into MAC & learned how to wear tons of different colors........I wasn't always wearing blush though, so I hadn't noticed that it wasn't matching. Now I've gotten into mineral makeup & am wearing foundation & blush a lot more & have noticed there's an issue here...........so I guess now I'm gonna have to do some blush experimenting............
