COMPLEXION PERFECTION Primer What it does: Primers set foundation for a long-lasting finish. You can also wear it alone to fill in fine lines and smooth the complexion’s texture. How to apply: Like a moisturizer, smooth it all over the face. Try: Sephora Skin Smoothing Makeup Base, $22USD Luminizer What it does: A luminizer – liquid or powder – gives dull, dry complexions a radiance boost. Wear it alone, mix it with your favorite foundation or use it as a finishing product to highlight. How to apply: Use your fingertips to dab on the areas you want to look extra luminous, like your temples, cheekbones and the bridge of your nose. Try: LORAC Luminizer in Pearl, $28USD Loose Powder What it does: Loose powder can be worn alone for a soft, airbrushed finish or applied over makeup to set the look. Finish is often matte, though some contain light-reflecting pigments for increased radiance. How to apply: Dip a large powder brush into the powder, tap off the excess and dust over the entire face. Try: Bare Escentuals i.d. bareMinerals Foundation SPF 15, $25USD Foundation What it does: Foundation minimizes imperfections, while balancing skin tone and texture with sheer, medium or full coverage. Unlike foundations past, this new generation provides natural-looking coverage, with a variety of finishes – from matte to satin – and skin-specific formulas. How to apply: Foundations should be applied only where you need it. Using a foundation brush allows for more control and gets into those hard to reach spots, like around the nose. Try: Vincent Longo Liquid Canvas Fluid Foundation SPF 8, $45USD Concealer What it does: Concealer provides highly pigmented, full coverage to areas that need extra camouflage, such as under eye circles, acne, scars and brown spots. How to apply: Using your fingers or a concealer brush for more controlled coverage, spot-apply to any imperfections. Try: Becca Compact Concealer, $33USD Tinted Moisturizer What it does: This lightweight cover provides sheer, natural-looking coverage, while delivering a dose of moisture to the complexion. Most tinted moisturizers contain the added bonus of SPF. Finish is fresh and radiant. How to apply: Apply to the skin like you would your facial moisturizer, smoothing it all over the fave for even coverage. Try: Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer, $28USD Pressed Powder What it does: One of the most versatile complexion products, pressed powder doubles as a foundation or finishing powder, and can be used for touch-ups throughout the day. When used wet, it provides medium coverage as a foundation; when applied dry it sets makeup, evens skin tone and takes down shine. How to apply: To apply as a foundation, use a damp foundation brush for smooth, even application. As a finishing powder, use a powder brush to sweep over the face. Powder puffs work best for blotting unwanted shine. Try: Smashbox Photo Matte Anti-Shine Pressed Powder, $28USD
