Here is a little summary of the types of mascara, I translated it from Icelandic, hope it's ok




Lengthens
Qualities: Lengthening mascara adds very fine fibres at the top of the lashes so they become longer
Pros and cons:
+ Adds some very becoming millimeters
- The fibres can irritate the eyes, especially if you use contacts
Suitable for: Short lashes that need lengthening




Thickens
Qualities: This type of mascara thickens the lashes with little silicon nodules and the tight brush applies a thick layer on the lashes
Pros and cons:
+ Thickens and tightens filmy lashes
- This type of mascara has a tendency to exude and peal off
Suitable for: Filmy and fine lashes


Bends
Qualities: In a mascara of this type there are special ingredients that stretch the lashes and bend them
Pros and cons:
+ Can “open” the eyes and lift the eye look
- Does not replace lashpliers
Suitable for: Straight lashes that need a little lift


Seperates
Qualities: With a lashcomb you can comb through the lashes so they won’t smear together
Pros and cons:
+ Every lash becomes visible
- Can be hard to use on the lower lashes
Suitable for: Thick lashes that have a tendency to smear together




Waterproof
Qualities: Waterproof mascara folds each lash like a waterproof coat
Pros anc cons:
+ Doesn’t exude if it comes in contact with water
- Can be hard to remove with a normal eye makeup remover
Suitable for: Lashes of those who don’t wanna have to worry in the gym or swimming




Nourishes
Qualities: A nourishing mascara is applied before a normal mascara is used to protect the lashes
Pros and cons:
+ Nourishes, lengthens and thickens the lashes
- The lashes can become smeared and clumsy
Suitable for: Lashes that could be longer, thicker and adhere better




Coloured
Qualities: Mascaras in vivid colours add more life to the eye look
Pros and cons:
+ Gives a fun complexion and are nifty for occasions
- The colours don’t suit everyone well – look to find the one that suits you
Suitable for: Lashes of those who want to freshen the look a little
