Dry patchy looking foundation

so. i used to put my foundation on and get amazing results. like id get a dewy texture and it really looks like my skin. now i kinda get this patchy dry thing goin on. like it looks like the places that stayed moist is my skin but the dry parts look like i packed on alot powder? i use the loreal true match and the mac compact. the creamy one. i forgot the name. but n e way im wondering if i should start setting my make up with powder or try and add more moisture. i just dont think that powder suits my face.

Re: dry patchy looking foundation

I get the same problem. For me it means I need to get on top of moisturizing because i forget sometimes. It also means i need to exfoliate. Even though i use a powder to finish off my look, on the dry patches it makes it look worse. Hope i was a help

Re: dry patchy looking foundation

I added an Origins scrub to my regimen about 2 weeks ago and it has made a huge difference in how my skin looks with and without makeup.

Re: dry patchy looking foundation

I used to set my face with powder after foundation but i recently heard that it can give an ageing effect to the skin, especially round the eyes...is that true?

Re: dry patchy looking foundation

If you're wearing too much powder near your eye area it'll settle in and make your skin look drier which can age you.

Exfoliating makes your skin radiate and look way better than not doing it.

Re: dry patchy looking foundation

Sounds like you need a little exfoliation and some extra moisture. Maybe lay off the powder for a week, or until the dryness subsides. I find powder to really dry my skin, and I never use it now.

Re: Dry patchy looking foundation

Besides exfoliating - which I always think is a excellent idea - try using a primer. I find that Smashbox and Laura Mercier (not oil-free) primers work well for dry and combo skin. You could try it, at least until you get your skin under control.
And I know this is possible a silly question, but how old are the cosmetics your using? Sometime that could also be the problem.

not silly at all my foundations are actually not fresh. i should re stock all of em. but what about my mac concealer i got it less than a year ago i use it every time i apply make up but there alot left and there will be alot left for awhile. when do i chuck it. i understand throwing away all my foundation cuz its over atleast 2 years old but what about the more expensive stuff like the concealer?

i remembered seeing this on an episode of the Rachel Ray show.

According to beauty expert Sonia Kashuk,

• There's no difference in the P.A.O. between your average-priced makeup and top-of-the-line beauty products. All makeup has a shelf life no matter how much you pay for it.

here's the link to the recap on her website for the shelf life of products Makeup Shelf Life | Rachael Ray Show
