Eyeliner...
hi everyone!
today's SKitten question is...how the heck do i get black eyeliner (or eyeliner in general) applied properly? i usually do all my eyeshadows and what have you but then totally blow off eyeliner bc i can never get it straight across my lashline (i usually end up with an uneven line with a white space above my lashes tips? tricks? any particularly idiot-proof product you know of? help a girl out!

Re: eyeliner...
When you say eyeliner, I'm assuming you mean liquid liner? I have never been good at applying that either. However, I adore eyeliner and won't go a day without it. What does work for me is to use a flat head liner brush (similar to MAC brush #212). I put a drop of Visine on the bristles, then run it across a neutral colored eyeshadow and use that to line my eyes. The result is long-lasting and IMO much easier than using a liquid liner. Also, if necessary, you can kind of "blend" it out before it dries completely, so you don't have to be 100% precise like you do with liquids. That's just my opinion. HTHS

Re: Eyeliner...
I read a tip a long time ago that said, "take a pencil eyeliner and make small dots along the lash line, then draw a line over the dots."
Maybe that will work for you. |

Re: Eyeliner...
Honestly, like Jennifer said, Practice is the best way to do it... I always line my eyes when they are open, and look straight ahead close to a mirror... That way I can get in close to the lashline.

Re: Eyeliner...
Lay a mirror flat on your desk, and look down into it when applying your eyeliner. It gives a very precise finish, getting the line very smooth and very close into the lashes. Just the angle you are viewing it at makes a big difference, it makes it easier to see the join of the lid to the lashes and thus get the liner in there well. It does also change the angle you are holding the pencil or brush at, and this makes the application more comfortable so the hand glides along easily even with a thin pointy liquid liner brush. Also try doing this with a magnifying mirror maybe. Practice really will help, and it will take time to perfect it, but try looking down into the mirror rather than straight up face on at it - hopefully it will help!

Re: Eyeliner...
I say skinny pencil til the end then a fat one. If you don't have to go the entire length of the eye with a pencil it may make it easier.

Re: Eyeliner...
thanks so much everyone! i'm definately going to try the mirror thing..
by the way--about a thicker pencil and then a thinner one can you sort of illustrate (what brand/product)? i've only seen one size pencil in the stores before.. also, i've tried the dots idea but it really didn't work for me. i guess i'll be going through a lot of eye makeup remover this weekend on the practice thing

Re: Eyeliner...
i never really used eyeliner until i moved to WA. so i had to practice a lot. i would go with like browns and more natural based colors at first. helps alot in practicing and if you mess up, not like its really noticable.

Re: Eyeliner...
i prefer to use a liquid eyeliner to line my lids. try to do it with ur pinkie sticking out so that u can get better hand balance. line very thinly so that if u mess up, u can either add a tiny bit more or wipe off slightly with a q-tip. if u want full out coverage. take a pencil (after u have applied the liquid eyeliner) and fill in the 'bald' spots underneath the line. hope this helps

Re: Eyeliner...
when applying a gel liner (love mac's fluidline the best), i use an angled liner brush. when i use a straight brush, it looks horrible, so i think the trick is to use an angled one!

Re: Eyeliner...
I've also found that by doing short strokes, I get my eyeliner more evenly applied...you can always go back and gently fill in any open spots. I always use Mixing Medium and whatever piggie I'm craving that day. Otherwise I have the Rich Chocolate Fluidliner. They're both great and there not as much tugging on the eye area as with a pencil.

Practise makes better, so even if you are just going to stay home, put on eyeliner, and soon, you'll become a pro...

Re: Eyeliner...
Gel eyeliners like MAC fluidline are really easy to use. I'm much better with them than liquid or pencil
