Eyeshadow bases?
I have not used e/s bases before and am looking for suggestions as to how to use them? Are there different kinds? What effect should I be looking for? How do you choose colors? How best to apply? TIA

Re: Eyeshadow bases?
I use Naturalism all over my eyelid because it matches my skin tone, and use any colour I feel like over it.
Chartru under greens, Canton Candy under pinks and Mauvism under purples. As Laura says UDPP is good also. |

Re: Eyeshadow bases?
I use Urban Decay Primer Potion, although I don't use it everyday. I use on days where I know I'll be needed my shadow to stay on and look fresh for a longer period of time. Its actually been hard to find this stuff in stores lately but I'll sure they will be back on the shelf soon since Christmas is rolling around... I hope

Re: Eyeshadow bases?
The bases that I KNOW work and work well are Urban Decay's Primer Potion, and MAC Paint...
UDPP is clear so you don't have to pick a "color" but MAC Paint comes in several colors... I use Bare Canvas, but I think it might be a little too light for me, I am not as pale. You can also use Untitled, Stillife Sublime Nature. If you have darker skin, you could probably use Magrittes, Architechture, or Bamboom...

Re: Eyeshadow bases?
ditto to what the others have said.
but you can also use colored paints/shadesticks/bases under whatever e/s you use. like sea me shadestick under blue e/s to make the color pop even more. or a pink base under pink e/s. but you can also change the color of e/s. but you'd have to practice that to see what you come up with.

Re: Eyeshadow bases?
I love Clinique's Touch Base shadow bases. They are so pretty that they can actually be used alone as shadows/highlighters. I like Canvas Light, which is shimmery, and Canvas which is not. There are darker ones for darker skins, and a silver one that gives a great effect.
Having said that, I also use a really cheap one that I bought at the druig store. It's called Editor's Choice and I've had it a year and have never seen it again. It is a cream base one that comes in a pan. I've found they work well with powder shadows as they give the shadow something to hold on to and the powder keeps them from slipping. Lancome makes a good flesh-toned one and so does Alexandra de Markhoff; it's called Disguise for Eyes, but it is really expensive. One hint I would give you is not to use too much product. |

Re: Eyeshadow bases?
i too strongly recommend urban decays eye primer potion. its truly amazing. before i got it i had my doubts of how good it could really be, but it really IS that good. my eye shadows stay on all day without creasing or melting off. worth every penny.
