Fluidline as base?

Would you use something like mac's fluidline as a base replacing paintpots? Do you think they'll work the same or do they actually have different properties?

Re: fluidline as base?

I feel like fluidliners are more opaque and a bit more stickiness to them and more staying power.

There are some tutorials that use blacktrack fluidline as a base. If you use it over some duochrome colors, the sheen becomes the main color. For example, if you use Old Gold pigment or Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow over Blacktrack, you get really nice greens. You can also do this with Blackground paintpot or Sharkskin shadestick.

Oh, and I've also see people use liquidlast liners for bases!

Re: Fluidline as base?

I would say they really good for oily lids, I find then a bit dryer than paint pots and if I use them as abase, the e/s wont stick to my lids, cause they just to dry, but if I put over a bit of cream colour base or some other cream e/s(just to make the sruface a bti stickier) it works great.

Re: Fluidline as base?

if you use them as a base under similar color shadows or pigments, it really makes the colors pop.

Re: Fluidline as base?

This is a neat idea. I've seen a youtuber do this with a green and blue "mermaid" look, and the results were gorgeous. I'm going to try this with my black HIP creme liner.

Re: Fluidline as base?

I never tried it and don't think I'll plan on doing it... since FL seems to run out quickly.
Like Ashley mentioned, Liquidlast would make a good solid shade but as a base, it's a bit tricky but doable.

I personally stick to paint pots as a base, but I know FL have more vibrant color variation, so its up to the person who prefers which product better.

Thanks for the tip. I've been wondering about this for awhile

Re: Fluidline as base?

I've done it before! It's more drying than paints, but it doesn't budge! And it does make colors pop!

Re: Fluidline as base?

just to clarify, what i've done in the past is to put down an allover base prior. usually painterly or bare study paint pots. then i'll use fluidline as a shadow base under where i want that particular color to be really intense. that way, it doesn't become super drying on the lid. works great!

Re: Fluidline as base?

I've used Fluidline as a base before. They do feel different to piantpots, much dryer as everyone has said. They do work well as a base though.

Re: Fluidline as base?

Thanks for all the input I was trying to figure out if I was to make a mac purchase, whether I should get fluidline or paintpot (for base mostly, but if I get fluidline then I can get two uses out of it)

I've also seen quite a few smokey eye tutorials where they use fluidline as a base. Including Temptalia. It looked great in their pics.

Re: Fluidline as base?

I have definitely used them as e/s but not as a base. They have a tendency to make the entire application look really dry.
