Foundation Help

Hello everyone, I have terrible skin, I have large pores and i tend to have quite alot of small breakouts as well as uneven skintone and I have yet to find the perfect foundation for my skin. I have tried all the usual maybelline, rimmel, revlon, max factor etc and although these arent expensive I do waste alot of money trying them out
Ideally I would like a high coverage foundation or at least one that will make my skin look almost flawless, so if someone could recommend one perhaps from a premium range it would be great, I dont mind splashing out as its always my skin that lets down the rest of the look of my face!If someone can help it would be fantastic

Re: foundation help

Heyas!, Its rubbish when you can't find foundation that looks nice on ya skin I've had this problem for ages. Clinique do some really good foundations if your not too pale. Have you ever tried Mineral Makeup? because that gives a good coverage and looks more natural and you might find your skin will start to look better too.

Re: Foundation Help

Have you tried the Revlon Colorstay foundations (Original and Light Stay Active formulas) or Estee Lauder Doublewear?

Also if you have large pores, you might want to look into buying a Foundation Primer like Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer or Laura Mercier's... That will smooth your skin somewhat before foundation application and also help with the staying power of your foundation.

Prescriptives "Virtual Matte" should be perfect for you, from your description.

Re: Foundation Help

I think Prescriptives has a great selection of color shades and foundations. I usually go there for foundation or tinted moisturizer.

Why not try a few foundations....ask for samples. If you go to Sephora, they are always willing to give samples.

Re: Foundation Help

I was also going to recommend Prescriptives Virtual Matte, or maybe Flawless Skin if your skin is not too oily. Virtual Matte and most of their other foundations come in 4 different undertones, and when you go to the counter they will "Color Print" you to find your undertone. I tried the Virtual Matte and liked it except that their lightest color was too dark for me and Prescriptives is usually one of the best for pale foundations! I still use Prescriptives products, I just switched to a sheerer foundation and translucent powder so it blends into my skin better and doesn't have to be a perfect match! All of their products are safe for acne-prone skin which is also a plus!

I would think that at any mu counter, you could either ask for samples or ask them to put the foundation on your face so you can see whether it matched! (Maybe even go to the mu counter without any mu on, that's what I did so we could play with foundation all over my face!)

Re: Foundation Help

clinique makes a pore minimizer, and they make great foundation too. I also recommend Mary Kay. They have really good coverage foundation!

Re: Foundation Help

Prescriptives Flawless Skin or Prescriptives Virtual Matte, the latter if your skin is extremely oily. But both are oil-free and give full coverage if you want it. Prescriptives also comes in an amazing range of skin tones.

Re: Foundation Help

I highly suggest Prescriptives Flawless Skin Foundation. I have acne-prone skin and haven't broken out one. Go to your local counter and ask them for a sample that matches your skin.

Re: Foundation Help

Some I would recommend are:

Chanel DPF or Double Perfection powder if you tend to be super oily. These provide a really elegant finish, but do make me look "done". I use these for special occasions as I find that they photograph well and make me look very polished.

Aveda Inner Light powder foundation – This is one of the most natural looking foundations I've ever used. I have to apply with a light hand because it's very pigmented and provides great coverage. I apply a light layer of this (with a kabuki brush...swirl tap and buff it into the skin) then use a concealer brush to cover any remaining areas of pigmentation. This foundation gets bad reviews sometimes, but I've applied it on people with the technique I just described and they love the way it looks and how natural it is. The secret with this is that less is more. Do not use a heavy hand

Jane Iredale pressed mineral makeup – You might have to order this, but it's super good and helped clear up my skin. It has very few ingredients and a nice finish. My dermatologist back in the States recommended this to me and it really helped my skin during my teenage years. It's pricey, but well worth it. This product is proof that simple is often better.

Chantecaille Future Skin – This can be hard to find, but I got it at Space NK. This is a great foundation if your skin is anywhere from dry-normal-combination. If you're oily or super oily I'd probably steer clear of this unless you like a super dewy finish. This is a really elegant gel formulation that looks super natural on the skin and can make anyone look "fresh". Also, it's one of the few liquid foundations that can provide such a natural - dewy finish and has never broken me out. I'm super sensitive to product induced breakouts so that's pretty good.
