Help!! I'm a Maid of honor.....

and need help with the shade of makeup to wear that day. Because most of my household members are actually in the wedding there has been a lot of expenses and therefore I cannot afford to have a professional do my makeup. The dress color is like a Dark Gold. Can you ladies give me some ideas or shades that I can start playing with or looking for?? Thanks!

Re: Help!! Im a Maid of honor.....

I'm in a wedding too, this September and found a book called makeup makeovers: Weddings by Robert Jones. All the colors are very natural like taupes, peaches and even lilacs. The book gives some great application tips and charts for how to apply your makeup like in the photos. It does mention that bridesmaids should apply lighter than the bride, so i'm going to pick one of the looks and adapt it. Maybe you can check it out at the library. It retails for $20 or so- cheaper on amazon.

I suggest brown or gold shimmery eyeshadow. Neutrals. You dont wanna outdue yourself and the bride. YOu can line your eyes on top with bk liner and then apply the shadow, mascara, pale lip color.

Yeah brown did cross my mind when I saw the color of the dress. It is a pretty conservative wedding and I dont wanna look overdone or outdue the bride. Lets see if I can find a pretty shimmering brown. Thanks!

Think if a honey brown eyeshadow, or even a peach light color would not look so bad either. A subtle look. Also the fall colors are brown and beige for eyes looks good.

Do you think I should wear the dark color on the eyelid only or an all over application?

Re: Help!! Im a Maid of honor.....

I think you should get (if you on a budget), a combo eyeshadow set. Almay, Covergirl, Maybelline has them. You see the brown with the peach combo or the gold with a pearl shimmer color.

I think the dark on the lid, (gold on lid, pearl on top of it) and the light shadow on the rest of the top of your eyelid, with black eyeliner line on top of lid. Dont do a Cleopatra line, just a black line. Follow it with a nice lip gloss, almost a coppery gold lip gloss, Revlon has good colors. Or it does not have to be gold, cause too much gold is like yikes!! Use a sheer lipgloss, tinted color.

The dark shadow all over the lid is too much, that's more for like a dramatic evening party look. Subtlety remember, its'a wedding.

Thank you Chinadoll I have a much better idea of what I am going to do now. Physicians Formula if I am not mistaken has some very pretty shimmering e/s that come in combos. Have you used those?

Re: Help!! Im a Maid of honor.....

I have not used Physicians. But I saw that they have a good mineral line of eyeshadows. The mineral will give it that shimmery look. Try experimenting on your face, days before the wedding. Just to make sure that you like it and that it's the right look. I think you will do good. You want everything to come out perfect. Waterproof mascara, blot powder for shine control. etc...

Post a pic after the wedding, just to see how you came out.

I was thinking of doing wedding makeup oneday. I kind of like to see the brides get all dolled up..

Re: Help!! Im a Maid of honor.....

Wow those are some great suggestions from Chinadoll! Just a few more things to think about. What time of day is the wedding? Natural light (day) vs. flash photography (evening) will affect your "look" in photographs. Flash Photog. tends to wash you out a bit. Additionally for evening, your look can be a little more dramatic. Also think about primer to make sure the face/ lips stay on throughout the event... Testing the look a few days before is a great idea. Take a photo or two before the event to make certain that shinyness is not an issue with any foundation/ powder etc. not to mention to make certain you like the way you look. I know the book had tons more but that's all I can remember right now... mostly it was about the best application for photographs which as the maid of honor- I think ya might have a few.
Thank goodness i'm just the bridesmaid
Anywho I know you will look fabulous!
Hugs,
Me

This wedding is in the evening so you may have a point there. Im afraid to outdue the bride but the bride plans to wear nothing but foundation, powder and lip gloss.......so how can I not outdue her when she isnt wearing barely anything at all!!..lol..

The brown/gold shadow with the black eyeliner, lots of mascara should be sufficient for the evening look. If the bride is going that natural, everyone else is gonna look "made up" and that's okay..someone has to wear the makeup...lol..Let it be you....
