Help! MAC Fluidlines/209 Brush - Cats Eye

Hi

Please can anybody help me. Ive purchased a MAC Black Fluidline and 209 brush. Trying to achieve the cats eye look. Im almost there but not quite.

When Ive completed the line it looks distorted. I close my eye, pull the eye up a little and draw the line then when I let go the line isnt fluid, its sorta up and down. I dont know if this is because im getting old and my eyes are heading south or whether I should be taking the line more out to the sides rather than taking it up.

Any suggestions

Re: Help! MAC Fluidlines/209 Brush - Cats Eye

I can't do a cat's eye and in fact don't even line my upper lashline. When I try to do a cat's eye, the line is not smooth at all, I have very hooded eyelids and the line just wrinkles up on the skin. It's so frustrating because I LOVE the look of a cat's eye. Are your lids hooded or deep set? That may be the problem.

Re: Help! MAC Fluidlines/209 Brush - Cats Eye

I've found that pulling your eye (at lest for me) causes a distortion of the line. I stary out by lining from inner corner out to the end of the eye, then I line from outer corner (creating the 'tail') of the cats eye back to the inner corner to blend...

Hope that helps...and makes sense for you!

Re: Help! MAC Fluidlines/209 Brush - Cats Eye

Yes no offense but I know from people I have done makeup on, if your eyes are really hooded or just a tad wrinkled dont expect it to be perfect. Its still wearable though. Smudge it out a little with a dark shadow, hiding the imperfections.

If thats not it, maybe you have the same problem as me. I cant apply a smooth line if I pull my lid. Yea I know you see people on Youtube doing this perfectly everywhere, but I get the smoothest best line when I do not stretch my eyelid out at all. Look straight into a mirror, or slightly down, and just draw along those lashes without stretching anything. Go over it with your eye closed after if you like, to make sure you get right into the base...

Re: Help! MAC Fluidlines/209 Brush - Cats Eye

sometimes I seem to get caught in my lashes and that distorts the line..

I do find that some people prefer to pull for a good line, but others are better off not pulling at the lid. I Guess its a case of finding what works for you

As the others say, however, if you have deep set eyes or they're very hooded, it will definitely make lining them more difficult.

maybe post a picture and we could offer more specific advice?

Re: Help! MAC Fluidlines/209 Brush - Cats Eye

I usually don't pull on my lid when I'm doing a cat eye look. But that's just personal preference. Pulling on the lid doesn't really work for me.

What I would do is try applying the liner like you have been (pulling the lid), and then just touch up the uneven areas afterword (without pulling your lid).

As far as technique, I do what MACGin does and it seems to help.
