Help with makeup :)

Well, i have a party this saturday , and i'm dressing up as a chinese (it's a costume party - is it the correct name?) . I went to MAC site to check it out the chinese dress makeup (the face one, i have a real dress) , but i'm having trouble when reproducing it on my face. Could you help me? Not with the colors, really, but with tips of application.

I wish I could help, but I have no clue! Definitely post pics of your costume and makeup later though!

Re: Help with makeup :)

Hmm..I have a hunch..but let's see. With application..well first things first..ya need a clean moisturized skin. Now..i would suggest using a primer...I personally use jane iredale's absence primer (its white and gives me a slight white look which i love..it's white because of the titanium dioxide. ..but you can find a primer from a department store..i know that laura mercier carries it..but i don't know any other lines that do.

The reason for a primer is it will prevent makeup such as camoflauge creams or foundation to seep into in your skin..and the oils in the skin will change the colour of your makeup..not something you want happen!

Now..after you put the primer on...from looking at the pictures..you want to achieve a pale complexion...so..add a bit of translucent powder over the primer..now you can do the powder looking cakey and you can achieve this by using a flock sponge and dip the sponge into the translucent powder and pat it on your hand to get the excess off and then take the sponge and press it on your face and roll...it will set the primer and not look cakey.

Next..you want a pale foundation and you can use a foundation sponge. Now..is this the sort of advice you are looking for?

Am I on the right track? If so, I'll proceed..i just don't want to go on and on...and realize its not the advice you wanted..so lemmme know.

Re: Help with makeup :)

Good info I'm starting to practice the look only today, because these days i've been flooded with tons of final exams (i had 4 these last 3 days, thank God it's over). I'll make a try now and see what i can achieve

I found a foundation stick here at home that's a little bit too light to my skin and a light loose powder , and since it's a high neck dress i can make my face and neck lighter without looking too strange

Later i'll post some pics

Re: Help with makeup :)

Update: whew! After a LOT of tries, i think i pretty much mastered the look i wanna achieve... Of course, there's still some uneveness on the eyeliner application, but liquid liner is a pain to apply correctly (specially on the left eye)

Here are some pics... Sorry for the ugly hair
