How do you apply your eyeshadow?

Is there a trick you guys use when applying e/s? Do you use a mixing medium? Do you apply your e/s wet?

Tell us all your secrets girls!

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

I use paints and they help the colour to appear brighter.

Lightbulb Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

I start with a base like one from Mary Kay or Clinique touch tint for eyes in
Nude Sparkle then pat on a light beige.
Here are a few ideas of what I do with eyeshadow. Thought you might like to know, just a few ideas.
When it comes to wearing eye shadow there are 3 good ways to go:

1- If you want to create a deep dramatic effect, like smoky eyes
wet your brush before using your eyeshadow. It will take any color
and make it look darker and just more intense.

2- If you want to go with a sheer look or just add a little color for daytime
wear, then just lightly drag your brush in your eyeshadow and sweep it
across your lid. Add your mascara and your done!

3-You can even use your eyeshadow as eye liner. Use a small, stiff liner
brush into the shadow and rim your lashes. Don't forget to tap off excess
first to avoid any falling onto your cheeks.

Or just go without and wear mascara and lipgloss..

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

lol, ok Malinda...here it is!

I always start with a base, I use MAC Bare Canvas Paint, but next time I think I am going to go for a slightly darker color. Either Stillife or Untitled maybe... Bare Canvas is a little too pale for me, and it is tricky to blend with my skintone.

I usually will "pat" the e/s on with my brush rather than sweep it across my eyelid. Patting will pack on a lot more color than sweeping will... As OverallBeauty said above, sweeping your brush across your lid will give you a more sheer effect.

I also will use my e/s as an eyeliner or use my shadow wet, although I haven't tried it wet while also using the MAC Paint... I wonder if that would mess up the staying power? Lol, I think I just realized what I will do tomorrow for my FOTD!

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

1 - apply Urban Decay Primer Potion
2 - apply MAC CCB in Hush all over the lid
3 - Apply crease color
4 - apply lid color (s)
5 - blend, blend, blend
6 - Swept color on brow
7 - line eyes with fluidline or eye kohl or eye shadow

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

I'm probably the worst person to answer this because my shadows never turn out as vivid as everyone elses in the FOTD forum! I've heard UD PP makes the e/s more vivid so i'm hoping to try that soon. I rarely use my e/s wet because i'm afraid of ruining them although as far as i know its ok to wet Stila's e/s

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

Sometims I like to apply Stila's e/s wet!! The darker shades I apply them wet as a liner with a eyeliner brush, and the lighter and brighter ones i apply them wet in the inner and center lids, like Kitten is gorgeous wet!!!

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

When I don't want to lug around a lot of make up , I'll carry just 2 shades and use them once wet and once dry or layer wet/wet wet/dry or dry/dry so I end up with about 4 diff shades that I can use to mix diff. colors

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

Well, my application is far from perfect but here goes..

Apply foundation with my finger and loose face powder with Sonia Kashuk's Contour Brush as a base. Apply concealor under eye and set with face powder -- using an eyeshadow brush or other small brush allows me to get the powder right up to the lower lashline, which makes any eyeliner on the lower lid last all day.

With Sonia Kashuk's Small Eyeshadow Brush: Apply crease color and brow highlighter using the side of the brush to get a smaller line; apply lid color and washes and blend with the width of the brush to get a smoother wash. (The order of these steps may vary depending on the look I'm going for.) This brush is so versatile, I haven't seen a need for many other eyeshadow brushes!

Apply eyeliner to upper lid and outer 1/3 of lower lid -- I always use automatic pencils, they are easy

Touch up the outer corner of my shadow and blend into the eyeliner on the lower lid using a small angle brush (Maybelline's Eye Contour brush). I just recently added this step to my routine, I think a hint of a cat-eye helps open up my small eyes a little more than my previous techniques!

You can see pics of the brushes in my notepad...

I've never tried using eyeshadow wet...

Re: How do you apply your eyeshadow?

I'm reading a lot about primers, shade sticks, paints and bases for applying eyeshadow. Would someone mind explaining how these products work and how they make eyeshadow application better?

There's a thread on the first page, I think the title is "Eyeshadow base" where someone was asking something similar, Laura put a lot of great links in there so check it out.

My lids are oily and I've noticed this happening. Now I know what to do about it. Thanks!
