Some of you might be familiar with tubing mascars such as Blinc's and TubeYourLash. Unlike usual mascaras, tubing mascaras are supposed to build a tube around your lashes, so they aren't supposed to smudge or run. They also come off easily with a bit of warm water and wiping.

Loreal is coming out with a tubing mascara that also comes with a base. One writer at Kiss and Makeup was able to review it:



As the resident mascara fiend, when a sample of L'Oreal's new Double Extension Beauty Tubes found its way onto my desk, I was more than happy to give it a go. Mascaras that build up 'tubes' rather than traditional flaky fibres are the latest mainstream fad, despite the fact Blinc Inc have been selling them for years. L'Oreal have boosted the technology by adding a white basecoat for extra oomph. This is a good move, as previous tubing mascaras have lasted, but haven't been as dramatic as other formulas. Of course adding two colour-coded formulas means double the work of a normal mascara, but promises better results. You add the conditioning, lengthening base, let it dry and then top with the black top coat. Does it work any better than rivals? Keep reading to find out...

First, a confession. I am a terrible, terrible person. I sleep in my makeup. I have, on many occasions, woken up resembling a panda bear after a particularly vicious fight. For this reason, I'm already a fan of this product. Tubing mascaras save me from that hell if I forget to remove my slap after a late night. Until you apply warm water and gently slide the product off your lashes, you're left flake-free and fluttery.

L'Oreal definitely deliver here, as this product is budge-proof to the point of annoyance. I tested this by 'accidentally' sleeping in my makeup. The following morning my pillow was still white (which was a good thing since I was staying with family at the time) and my lashes actually still looked quite nice (if a tiny bit itchy - I wouldn't recommend you try and make this last two days, naughty!).

The white base coat seems to protect the lashes a little more than with other tube mascaras too, as I've often pulled the odd lash out when using rival tubing mascaras like those from Blinc or Clinique. With this one my lashes remained intact throughout removal.

But how does it look? Well, quite fabulous, actually. The white base coat (which is enriched with Ceramide R and B Panthenol) lengthens and builds up the lashes without weighing them down, and doesn't clump like a traditional mascara might. The black top coat is very sheer and it takes a couple of coats to conceal the white, but once you've done this, you're left with very long lashes that look well-separated and shiny. If you're used to really serious thickening, volumising products you might find this is a bit flimsy for your tastes, but it definitely lengthens as promised.

Overall, for a mid-priced product (RRP £9.99) this delivers amazing results. As a daytime mascara it's absolutely perfect. For night I might boost it with a flick of a volumising mascara on top - hopefully those tubes would still make removal less smudgy the next morning!

I've tried Blinc's and hated it. The formula did not work with my thin lashes, but maybe I'll still give this Loreal one a try!
