MAC essentials for beginners?

So I have about $42 which I may use on a trip to MAC... I was wondering if you lovelies could suggest to me a few "essentials" from MAC that I should pick up? I'm pretty sure I wanna get blacktrack fluidline, and maybe fix +. I'm not sure what else to get though! I want to try a pigment, but I may wait on that. Or maybe I should get a concealer? Anyway, I want some suggestions! How do any of you fell about their Mascaras? I bought their zoomlash, but I'm not impressed with it... are their other ones any better?

I've heard Plushlash is a good mascara.

I love their pigments and lipglasses!

Thanks! A while back I was interested in plush lash and it was the one I wanted.. but then I was told that the zoomlash did everything: legthen, curl, thicken. But it really didn't do anything for me.

What would be a good "first pigment"

What other stuff should I try?

I've heard that MAC foundations cause people to break out.... I have the satinfinish foundation and I believe it broke me out... but I was wondering if their Studio fix powder foundation cause breakouts too? Because I know a girl on youtube uses it with fix + and I just love how it makes her skin look. But I don't want it if it causes breakouts.

Re: mac essentials for beginners?

I would def invest in a pigment. They seriously last forever and the colors are amazing. Also you can't go wrong with a nice lipglass...

As far as foundations, I use Studio Fix in N4...I'm allergic to most of the liquid foundations on the market, but this one causes me NO problems...I LOVE it.

Re: mac essentials for beginners?

I can use studio fix powder without breaking out if I only wear it every once in awhile. If I try to wear it everyday, I have problems. But I think it really depends on your skin!

As far as pigments, "Tan" is gorgeous. "Pink Opal" is really pretty and has a lot of uses!

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

I think i've narrowed down what to get... about $45 so not too bad!

i plan on getting:

moisturcover concealer
fix + spray
blacktrack fluidline

i wonder if blacktrack would be too harssh... should i dry dipdown instead? but i guess not if i'm going for scene/rocker styles.. LOL

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

I really liked Plushlash.

I tried their Zoomlash and it was crap, but Plushlash was nothing like any of the other mascaras, great formula, so black, and a really neat brush.

Totally agree with this!

For a first pigment, jardin aires is so pretty, or tan like shaundra suggested.

IMO, Fix + isn't really anything spectacular, but it is only $15.00, so that's not bad.

Great choice with blacktrack fluidline!

A MAC must for me would be either a paint or paint pot, I love both, but I think the paints have an edge over the paint pots. Love them.

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

I think for a good first pigment would be vanilla. Its very multi purpose. You can mix it in some moisturizer for a highlight on the cheek bone, or even a simple highlight on the brow bone. And get creative with it and make some shimmry clear gloss.

I have plush lash, and its my hg mascara. It does everything for me and I love the scent. I also think a good eyeshadow brush is required. I think its the 239.

I also have the fluidline, and I use it everyday but recently switched to stilas smudgepot. Thats just me tho.

Another good rec, would be maybe one of their blushes. i like most of them. so maybe you can try that out.

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

Thanks ladies!

I was wondering.. MAC does returns on items right? Like if you don't like something or its the wrong shade or whatever? Do I just need to bring the receipt with my items, and the original box they were in??

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

yes, they have a 30 days guarantee, if i'm not mistaken. that's just me here, but i always make sure i bring the receipt and (if possible) the boxes.

the others made great suggestions, so for your wallet's sake (lol) i won't add any. just enjoy your trip to MAC and make sure you try every color on your hands ! (or is it just me ? i must drive them crazy !!).

I always buy my MAC makeup from nordstroms. The return policy is awesome there you can return anything at any time as long as you have the box (the sticker thing) or receipt.

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

I like blacktrack and that is a good choice and lipglass is my favorite gloss. I wish we could buy Mac for the same cost as you do in the US, $42 would only buy you one item of anything at an Australian Mac store.

Enjoy your Mac

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

I would definitely include a lipgloss in all these. I guess the top three i would go for woudl be a fluidliner, lipgloss and a pigment.

Re: MAC essentials for beginners?

At my first trip to MAC for "essentials", a salesperson helped me pick out "Blue Brown" and "Pink Opal" pigments, I fell in LOVE with the Delft paintpot so I got that too, the 239, 217 & 219 brushes, black track fluidline, and then gave me a few pigment samples.

You'll have fun no matter what you decide on, that's for SURE!
