MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

yesterday i went in to the mac store and i ended up gettin my eyes done. the ma who did my eyes said that you should always have at least one matte on while mixing your colors..

i was wondering waht all you guys do?

or if that works best or what? cause before yesterday i wanted nothin to do with matte because they were hard to blend and not all pretty..but she made some good points but im juss wondering
if i DIDNT have one matte color mixed in...would it look bad?? or is it more preference? or if its more of a fact?

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

I say it's a matter of preference. For me, matte e/s are hard to blend so I hardly use them ever. However, the new MAC Matte2 e/s are creamier than most, and seem much easier to blend.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

I rarely use matte colors. They look ok, but they are hard to blend for me. Plus, I prefer shimmer! hehe.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

I love matte shadows... I'm not a fan of a lot of shimmer/glitter in my whole eye, so that tip from the MA was a good one.
Usually, I reserve matte shadows on either just my lid are or just my crease area... and I think it depends on which color I use that's harder to blend.
I found my first one, Newly Minted, horrible to blend... and Chrome Yellow is hard to show up without packing it on.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

i've found that adding matte shadows helps to add definition between colors. if i do all shimmer shadows then it tends to look a little muddy for me.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

Its more of a matter of preference. I do one matte e/s for the mere purpose of using it as a base, not bc its a requirement.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

I don't find that I have to use a matte shadow with every look, but I do like matte shadows. Like Aquilah said, MAC's matte2 shadows aren't hard to blend at all. Same with Urban Decay's matte shadows. They're very smooth and easy to blend.

I own one matte eye shadow out of my entire collection. You don't have to wear any matte if you don't want to.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

I think it is a matter of prefrence. I personally am not a huge fan of matte, but I do like it for things like lining and deepening my crease. I have found MAC matte e/s especially hard to blend.

And of course it will look good if you don't use a matte!! MU is all about having fun and experimenting with color and texture. You can do anything you want.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

I think it's a preference, too, but matte shadows help as a base for other colors. For instance, if you were going to wear a shimmery or glittery shadow, and the color didn't show up, a layer of matte shadow beneath it will boost the color, but still give you the glittery glow you want. I definitely think it is a preference, but I also think everyone should try it out to see how much it helps brighten colors.

I always use matte eyeshadow. It gives me more dimension and I personally prefer it.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

i felt the need to come and defend matte eyeshadow too much shimmer settles in and just looks silly on me, i love matte colors and havent had trouble blending....but are there really strict rules in makeup? i think not! use what you like

I think its a matter of preference as well but I do like my matte2 eyeshadows. I have 4 of them and they are my only matte shades.

Re: MAC eyeshadow..matte..i heard...

Hmmm...I think it's a matter of preference as well. I like matte shadows, but I use them strictly as crease colors, or for blending eyeshadows up to the browbone. I use them especially if I have shimmery colors on the lid to contour the eye. I don't think I remember ever using matte shadows by themselves without using shimmer, though. Maybe if I'm going for a natural look, but that's rare for me LOL. I do think they're a good way to balance a look that has shimmer in it, but I don't use it everyday.
