MAC or Shu Uemura brush?

I need to get a powder brush to apply my compact foundation. I am currently using the powder brush from The Body Shop but find that it picks up too little powder from my compact(most of the powder is stuck onto the brush hairs!) I would like to get something from either MAC or Shu emura coz I can get discounts for brushes from these brands. From which brand should I get my brush?

Thanxxx!

Re: MAC or Shu emura brush?

I'm a huge fab of Shu brushes in general. But their powder brushes are quite rough. In this case, I'd get the short MAC 129. It's quite full and it I use it often to apply powder foundation.

Thanx for the tip ..how 'bout the 180 buffer brush? I have heard that some people use it to apply MAC studio fix & has gotten good results(though I do not use studio fix). Also, for MAC 129 does it give good coverage when u apply your powder foundation with it?

Re: MAC or Shu Uemura brush?

Thanx, but Im really tempted to get #180 coz it does look like a kabuki brush & I really want to own one, for whatever reason I don't know. Urm, I know this sounds crazy but I really want a Kabuki brush:icon_love

But since everyone seems to be for #129, I juz might get it!

Re: MAC or Shu Uemura brush?

I don't own the 180, and I've only played with it in the store. It seems to me that the longer, white bristles, are quite spread out, not as dense as the rest of the black ones in this brush. I would imagine, this would make for a sheer application, or the white bristles would get smushed (yes, that's a word!). I imagine this would work for sheer application of more pigmented blushes and stuff.

I like the finish of my powder foundation using the 129. It can be quite sheer, or if you buff it, you can apply more. I prefer this to a brush because i worry about a sponge dragging on my skin and bringing out flakies. Also, the 129 comes with a little pouch and is small enough to carry in your purse.

Hope this helps!

Yes, thanx for the detailed description of the #180 brush... I think I'm going for #129. I have alr placed an order. I hope its worth my money! Oh, wat do u mean by 'if u buff it, u can apply more'? Does it mean to swril the brush on the compact powder?

Re: MAC or Shu Uemura brush?

By buffing I meant you would swirl your brush on your skin to basically apply more product and get more coverage where you need it.

Re: MAC or Shu Uemura brush?

If you want the best quality, go for Stila's #8( large one) or Stila's #24( smaller one), they are very soft like silk on your skin but also expensive!!!

This is #8:

And this is #24:

Re: MAC or Shu Uemura brush?

I agree that the Stila brushes are unbelievably soft on the skin, the #8 anyway. It's great for loose powder and the shape is fantastic.

But I think this brush is too soft to apply powder foundation. The bristles aren't firm enough to pick up the product, and the shape of the brush - flat, not round - is more suited to dotting on loose powder and brushing it off.

my 2 cents.
