Oh the vivacious Red Lipstick

Hey everyone!
I just bought a cheap Rimmel color Voluptuous red lipstick and put it on myself. I LOVE how i looks but it would be unacceptable to wear or taboo almost for a 16 year old to wear it in public.

Why is that? Why is the correlation between red lipstick and unacceptability so strong in the public's eyes? D: (Why does red sometimes mean teen slut?)

Gosh, i love the lipstick so much though... It'll be used for... eh, mall excursions on a blue moon.

What do you think?

Re: Oh the vivacious Red Lipstick

My old Spanish professor did his thesis on colors and what they mean. He studied the students on his campus and the colors they most wear. Red isn't so much a "slut" color than it's considered a "provocative" color. He said in his studying, the girls who wore red the most were also the more "flirty" on campus... BUT, that's neither here or nor there! Depending on how red the color is, I don't see why you couldn't wear it... If nothing else, you've got a great color to wear on the weekends! You could always mute it with a pale lipgloss too

it's something about how when a woman orgasms alot of blood rushes to her lips and cheeks and that;s supposedly why men are attracted to red lips and rosy cheeks, LOL.

anyway, i think red lips can be very classy and pretty

I love red lips. Sadly red is not a good color on me. Not for lipstick, not for clothing.

I'd LOVE to wear it to school, but stereotypes would eventually kick in and everything. And people would probably see it as a cry for attention or something. In reality, i just love red lipstick and im blessed it looks alright on me.

Thanks for sharing my pain! I don't know why society thinks bad about it!

Re: Oh the vivacious Red Lipstick

I'd say wear it if it suits your outfit, just remember to keep the rest of your makeup clean & toned down, then you'll look more classy than trashy. Trust me, I *love* wearing red lipstick and wore it all the time in HS...you'll get some people stereotyping you, but they'd have found something else to judge you on even if you didn't wear red lipstick.

Haha- we have uniforms here... black and white, and the undershirt is the only color we can wear. So one day im planning on a neutral brown and wowwing people. It's just odd for me because i see myself as shy a bit and would LOVE to wear it out. Sort of who my inner self is. I'd surprise people.

Then definitely go for it! Shock everyone a little bit! That's part of the fun of HS.

Re: Oh the vivacious Red Lipstick

Oh, i feel you. I have always loved red lipstick, but until some time ago, i was not brave enough to wear it. But one of my friends told me: If you like , why not? It's you who is wearing , not everyone else, and most people don't care. Do what will make you feel happy. So, i bought my 1st red lipstick, which looks great, and wear it anytime that i need to look classy or more-woman instead of a sleepy-and-messy-18 year-old-teenager.

Re: Oh the vivacious Red Lipstick

Just wear it. If you like it then go for it. I was told by my soc professor that prostitutes wore red lipstick as a sign, kind of like a "For sale" sign or something, but thats only here. Every culture I guess has had a bad experience with red lips at one time or another. My theory is that it makes women look strong and powerful and men are scared by that and so they make up these stereotypes and stuff. I mean, the women who I've seen wear red lips are so confident and stuff. Im guessing it has to do with the patriarchial society we live in
