Paula Dorf Cake Mascara
For anyone that is curious about cake mascara's or who has bought them, just a FYI that the main ingredient is Thimerosal. In other words, It is Mercury.
I have bought a cake mascara from a different company and when I looked on the ingredient list, I was shocked that Thimerosal was on the first to be listed as the ingredient. You don't think that something like Mercury would be put into products. To assure that Mercury isn't in my mascara, I'm avoiding Cake Mascara's from now on. It could be just me, but the thought of putting Mercury near my eyes, doesn't appeal to me. You would think that the FDA for Colors and Cosmetics would do something about that...but their excuse is that serious side affects are rare. That in itself could be true, but they do have many complaints about side effects mild to serious. Overtime, if you are continually exposing the harmful chemicals around your eyes, what are the long term effects? In any case, there are plenty of mascara's out there that don't use Thimerosal in them. Just a FYI, if you are curious. |

Re: Paula Dorf Cake Mascara
Thimerosal is better known as mercury, yes, and it is the preservative in vaccines. From what I understand (and someone please correct me if i am wrong). The exposure is more alarming for infants rather than adults because infants lack the ability, to eliminate mercury from their bodies and therefore not a risk to adults.
The amount that you would get in your body if you get any in your body at all from using this cake mascara would be comparable to the amount of harm you would get from drinking a glass of tap water, knowing that majority of it contains chlorine used to purify water, even though it is a deadly gas. Almost everything you come in contact with has a potential to be deadly. |

Re: Paula Dorf Cake Mascara
well in trace amounts the FDA claims its "ok" to have mercury in stuff (trust me its really frightening when you learn what is acutally allowed in like water and other things).
i have some personal problems with a lot of this kinda stuff being that im going to school for env. sci, but its political based and i really dont want to start some giant argument on here about it. but yeah, its amazing what the gov. allows to put into stuff we use daily. |

Re: Paula Dorf Cake Mascara
Well I love that there is good news and bad news!I have been wanting to try cake mascara for a while, and Im still going to... I dont think any of it will harm or kill me in the long term lol. I use Talika lipocils and they have a warning that something or another in it has the 0.0000001% chance that it may change your eye color... really what are the odds. I still use it lol...

Re: Paula Dorf Cake Mascara
Well Darla, it's more that its coming BACK into fashion. Cake mascara was the orignial way it was made. You use a brush on the little black "cake" and put it on your eyelashes. I dotn know if you need something to activate it, like water or its allready moist

Re: Paula Dorf Cake Mascara
Yea I think all it is, you wet a brush that should come with it, and use it to apply the cake (its like dry mascara). I guess you just brush it on and it darkens your lashes. I think a lash comb would probably be helpful afterwards too lol. I dont know for sure but Ive been dying to try it for some reason lol. Just fascinates me how it was like the first way mascara was ever used...

The only advantage I can think of is that you can take it on an airplane! LOL I know thats not really great, but since you cant take your tube of mascara, and you never know what could happen, maybe it would be a good thing to have with you?
