21 Scared of Powders?

I've always liked liquid and cream foundation but have been hesistant to try powder or cream to powder foundations.
I.e mac studio tech or Studio Fix.
Whats it like?
How do you apply it?
I've thought it would make you look caked or dried out.
Which one would you suggest for a beginner?

Re: Scared of Powders?

I dont like MACs foundation sorry, but I have been hearing a lot of good reviews for their Natural MSF powders and their new loose powders.

I think as long as your face isnt dry, as long as its moisturized, powder foundation shouldnt look powdery on you. Dont put too too much on and it shouldnt look cakey. The more you "buff" it in with a good brush the more it should become "one" with your skin and it ends up looking more natural than liquid or creams, but still gives nice coverage.
I also find its quicker and easier to apply than the other types.

And I know some people like to set powder foundation with a spritz of Fix+ or some other setting spray that is a little wet, they say that takes the powdery look away as well. But personally I think as long as my skin is moisturized and as long as I buff my powder in, my foundation never ends up looking powdery.

Re: Scared of Powders?

The MAC Mineralize/Naturals are heavenly. I was also very hesitant to try powders since I tend to have occasional dry skin. I had tried mineral foundation before and it was a big, dry, caky mess. I tried the MSF Natural, and it looks just like the title says: Natural.

Since it is baked, it is a very light and almost creamy I would say. It makes my skin look like skin. I use it in conjunction with either the Select Tint or just concealer and it works beautifully. A spritz of Fix+ makes it look even better. It offers low-medium buildable coverage so don't expect anything heavy. I apply with EverydayMinerals new Kabuki brush that sells for $10.

I hope that helps..

Oops I didnt answer the question lol

I use a powder from Guerlain thats called Parure. It has SPF 20 and pearls for radiance right in it, and it just feels and looks so good on the skin. But it would probably be cheaper to start with MAC and if you grow to like powder, upgrade to something top of the line like Guerlain. Makes sense.

Re: Scared of Powders?

you can try a creme-to-powder foundation (like Vincent Longo's which I really love).

Powders are actually a great way to set makeup on your face, just make sure you don't buy a translucent powder - that will make you look cake-y. You're better off with a yellow toned powder. You may need to actually visit a department store counter and ask someone to show u a foundation powder that is yellow toned (rather than pink toned). Have her try it on you then go outside and check out what it looks like in natural light BEFORE you buy.

Also, actual pale yellow powder really helps to hide dark under eye circles. I believe Urban Decay makes a mineral face powder that is yellow. Benefit also makes a yellow loose powder.

Re: Scared of Powders?

i think it depends on the kind you try. sample them or get matched at the counter and see how you like it there before you buy it.
