Smokey Look great on everyone??

Hello,
I have a few questions regarding smokey eyes.
1-Can one wear smokey eyes during the day like to go to work?
2-Would smokey eyes look good one pale skin? (honestly!) or would that be just a big no no?

Here's the thing: Like a lot of people, I love the smokey eyes look. I'm not the type of person who wears a lot of makeup. Usually, basic eyeliner does the trick and the occasional lipgloss but that's it. My skin is VERY pale and my hair is dark brown -talk about one weird combo! I always use CoverGirl products. For foundation I use the classic ivory color. And for a concealer, I'll use CoverGirl's Fresh Complexion Under Eye Concealer Creamy Natural:

I want to change my makeup today and surprise everyone, you know with red lipstick and smokey eyes..

Here is a look I really like. Are those smokey eyes or not:

Thanks for taking the time to read this!!
Hoping to recieve an answer asap!

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

I just can't get it to look right. I am very pale, but yet I see other pale people (celebrities and whatnot) who pull it off beautifully. So, I"m not really sure if it has to do with coloring. I've decided it's the shape of my eyes. My eyes are very round - not almond-shaped and in the middle of them, the area under my eyebrowns seems to droop. I don't know if I need an eyelift or somethingj. I just can't pull it off though, and I soooo want to.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

I think the term "smokey eyes" can mean a lot of things to different people. However, personally, I would consider the pics you posted as smokey eyes.

If I was you and was going to wear smokey eyes to work, I would do it with lighter colors (taupes, browns, etc). The black might be a little too severe for the office (great for going out, though).

Once again, that's just my opinion. hth!

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

I think those posted pics are smokey eyes. I wouldn't wear it with red lipstick to work though, and I would do less harsh neutrals instead of black like stereoxgirl suggested.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

I think smokey eyes look good on everybody; I'm thinking about Nicole Kidman, Amy Lee (Evanescence) etc... Make sure you use the right amount of mu and if you don't usually wear a lot of mu, start with something neutral, maybe browns and beiges and then once you get used to it, you'll then be more comfortable using darker shades.
Re smokey look/red l/s at work, it all depends on where you're working, what you're doing, who you're meeting with, I know that it wouldn't be appropriate where I work.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

Heavy black eyes with bright red lips gives a bit of a gothic look. If you don't want gothic and want to wear red lipstick with it, definitely go for a softer colour. Brown is good, as suggested, but I'd go for a soft grey.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

I think everyone can wear it, i personally love it on pale skin, it looks so nice on that kind of skin tone. Just be carefull! Too much and you will look like you have a black eye or something. And im pretty sure you can wear it to work, I mean smokey eye dosen't necessarily have to be done with just black, it can be done with any color.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

try a black or darker metallic eyeliner and a shadow that compliments your skin tone and eyes. and smudge the liner a bit. for red lips you can use gloss for work or a matte formulation .

I love the smokey eye and I'm fair skinned with very dark brown eyes. I like your look but the under eye area looks a little to dark or heavy.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

Well, I don't think the heavy black eyeliner in the pictures you posted would be appropriate for work ... at least not in my office! Also, red lipstick and smokey eyes would probably be going very overboard for a lot of offices. Subtle makeup is definitely the best for the business world.... in some other lines of work, you might be able to get away with a little more mu. For example, I see a lot of girls in retail wearing more mu (though I'm still not sure that's a good idea if you want to get promoted to management!) You don't want to be known as the girl who wears too much makeup!

I think some sort of smokey look can work for everyone, but smokey eyes does not have to mean grey/black eyeshadow with black eyeliner! For work, try softer shades like browns, light greys, even subtle colors (such as dull greens, blues, purples) -- whatever you think looks best on your skintone. Then just blend the colors enough to give that smokey blended look. And be subtle with the eyeliner, too, either used a colored eyeliner or use a thin line of black.

And instead of bright red lips, try a wine red or rosy pink -- something to give your lips more color without being too bright. That combined with a brown smokey eye could be a nice look for work!

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

People usually think of smokey eyes as being very dramatic, but you could definately tone it down using the suggestions above, and by not blending the color out as much, especially on the lower lid. The pic you posted would be an example of a darker, more dramatic smokey eye. I also think smokey eyes will work on most people as long and they use a decent application technique and don't pile on the eyeliner. Then it just looks like you're trying too hard.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

for the smokey eye look, I never use a ton of black eyeliner...since my eyes are small, it'd look ridiculous lol. To get a nice smoky eye, I love Urban Decay's oil slick and Urban Decay's Roach.

Re: Smokey Look great on everyone??

Smokey doesn't necessarily mean black eyes. It's basically a technique or look that is well blended. You can do a smoky look using other colors than black such as browns, grays, pinks, etc.. So yeah, I'd obviously do a lighter/sheer version of the smoky eyes for work.

Also, since it doesn't have to be black, a smoky eye can look good on just about anyone - no matter the complexion. It's all in the choice of the right colors. I wouldn't go for a black if I had pale skin but opt for a brown or gray instead just so that it isn't as dramatic.
