19 Thoughts on my blending brushes

More pictures of the E.L.F. brush here.

1. Sonia Kashuk Ergonomic Handle Blending Brush
This brush is just too dang big for me to feasibly blend with. It has on OK softness, but it isn't the greatest. I have found every SK brush I have tried to not be all that soft. It's better for applying a wash of color, or you can do what I did and repurpose it as a concealer brush. It works great for that, and it's only an OK blending brush for shadow(it requires a bit more work to blend than I think it should).

2. Coastal Scents/Crown Badger Blending Brush

This brush is OMG soft. I love how it feels on the skin. I would even say it's softer than the MAC brushes I have felt. However, it's a bit too sparsely packed and is flimsy. You have to spend a lot of time working to blend with this. While soft, it's not worth purchasing.

3. Sonia Kashuk Large Crease Brush
This brush just plain sucks. It wasn't that soft to begin with, and over months of use is just damn scratchy. I put jojoba oil on it last night, and hopefully that brings this brush back to life. Otherwise I am throwing it out. It sucks as a blender(it tends to leave harsh lines where the brush comes to a point), and that coupled with the scratchiness left my lids really irritated trying to blend out my shadows.I pretty much only use it to place color if I have no other clean brushes. Sucks, don't buy.

4. E.L.F. Blending Brush(the new one, this was purchased in late May of this year)

Still testing this one out, but so far so good. It shedded a bit at first. I think it's done, but give it some time to be sure. I actually have 2 of them. Only one seems to have shedded a few hairs. They are soft. Softer than the Sonia Kashuk brushes. They blend just great. The only shadow it didn't blend well was my MAC Carbon, but that stupid damn eyeshadow is stubborn as hell to blend. I hate it, and can't wait until it's used up. I have yet to find a brush that doesn't take some work to blend it. I have used this brush for the past week( at least) of makeup. I enjoy using it. I'd really recommend getting a few.

Hope this helps someone.

Re: Thoughts on my blending brushes

I use all Trucco make up brushes....the blending brush is firm yet at the same time soft....if that makes any sense. I love it!

Thanks for sharing, Leti! My HG blending brushes are Studio Gear #34 and MAC 222. I am a blending machine with these two, lol.

Re: Thoughts on my blending brushes

Nope. I have a total of 5 or 6 SK brushes, and really don't care for them. I don't plan on trying any more. I use my angle brush for my brows, and the big blender for my concealer. The others just sit unused.

Re: Thoughts on my blending brushes

I have couple of SK brushes too and I hardly touch them myself. The only one I do use is the white handled blending one that cost me maybe 5 dollars (or cheaper) and it's my favorite blending brush so far. I think it's one of their most popular ones. If you ever go to target you might want to take it out of the packaging and just test the firmness but it seems similar to the elf one.

Re: Thoughts on my blending brushes

Thanks for the tip. I might do that. I have only ever seen the large crease brush, not a blending brush. My area has hardly anything though. They only recently got the SK skunk brush.

Re: Thoughts on my blending brushes

Ours always has at least 6 skunk brushes, which wasn't the best ever either, for foundation at least. I loved it as a big sweep of blush, highlight, perfect for bronzer or apply face powder but definitely not thick enough to be able to blend my foundation.
