Trying to convince myself to wear more colorful eyeshadows

Re: trying to convince myself
I've got black hair and very pale skin too only my eyes are green hazel and I usually wear greys, purples, light pinks, olive greens, black, burgandy. Try and find out what colors will bring out the blue in your eyes. You just have to get used to wearing different shadow colors.

Re: trying to convince myself
I have dark brown hair, pretty pale and have greyish/blue eyes and I find it hard to wear colors that don't come from the brown/champange group..I just don't think I look good with any other shade..but ive seen girls who have the same hair, eyes and skin tone who can pull of color great so you should try and see

I know that coral would make your eyes pop! I also think that you could wear any color if you applied it correctly. If you want to try new colors pick up some cheapy e/s and play with them. Wet N Wild have great e/s for cheap! NYX and Milani are also great.

Re: Trying to convince myself
agreed - get cheap shadows and play with them when you know you don't have to leave the house. Personally I think your colouring would look gorgeous with coral, like phantomgoddess suggested, or maybe very soft pale green, or pinks or oranges... purple would definately look gorgeous and when you're feeling more adventurous, I think black or grey would look very sexy and dramatic on someone of your colouring!
i say go for it ![]()

Re: Trying to convince myself
If you're not feeling terribly brave, you could try taupe. But depending on skintone, you'd likely do well with either peach or pink, greens, plums, lavenders (lavender is a thought, that's non-threatening) and purples.
If you want to go all gorgeous and shimmery and you're a MAC freak, try Idol Eyes with Her Ladyship as a highlighter, and maybe Satin Taupe as a liner. Betcha it'd work, too. And you'd still be mostly taupey ![]() At the very least, you could pick up some medium-dark pinks, soft plums and an olivey green or two to slowly integrate into your browns - they make really good highlight/crease colours for brown and grey. |

Re: Trying to convince myself
I've got black hair, but not very pale skin. Yet I know what you're going through with the same eyeshadow rut. My go-to eyeshadow colors are neutral, but I've discovered green shadow for the first time in my life. I now own three green eyeshadows, different hues and densities. It's fun and festive. I feel like a million bucks when I wear them, which is a couple of times a week. And I get so many compliments about it, even from people that see me everyday.
Go back to the days when you used to "play" with make-up and re-discover color. You can always wash it off if you don't like it. |

Re: Trying to convince myself
I agree with playing when you are not going out. I wear lots of colors but not very bright or dark. Yesterday I wore a bright green eyeshadow while shopping and was paranoid about it. No one said anything or stared at me and now when I look at my photos I realized it looked good. You just need to work your way up to it.

Re: Trying to convince myself
Take baby steps into more color, that way you can figure out what shades you like and what you don't without breaking the bank.
I would play with orange toned shades first since it will make the most of your blue eyes. MAC melon pigment, paradisco e/s, expensive pink, coppering etc. And then play with pink and plum tones as well as olives like sumptuous olive e/s.

Re: Trying to convince myself to wear more colorful eyeshadows
do your normal eye, but start off by putting a color, any color, into your crease color. or, use another color as a liner to get you started and more comfortable =]

Re: Trying to convince myself to wear more colorful eyeshadows
Purples and dark greens would be an easy way to transition away from browns. Try doing a neutral eye and adding a little extra color to it. That will help you ease into it.

Re: Trying to convince myself to wear more colorful eyeshadows
Don't be shy about the colors, MMonroemaniac! By your description, I think you can pull off extremely vibrant shades easily so long as you're confident! In my opinion, the fairer complexions pull off the best vibrant e/s! Not only that, but your hair is black, which doesn't limit your palette at all! I'm quite envious, to be honest! I think so long as your foundation is done well, and you keep your lips sheer while wearing more dominant e/s, then you will be gorgeous!
I have a rosy ivory complexion, red hair, and green eyes, and to be honest, I can pull off a great deal of shades. The only thing that really limits me is the combination of the rosy complexion AND the red hair. If I pair a certain shade of red/pink on my eyes, I can look more on the sickly side since my cool undertones seem to be brought out by my red hair even more. The key to wearing vibrant shades (aside from application technique) is having the confidence to wear them. If you believe they look awesome on you, everyone else will. I've had plenty of compliments on my outrageous e/s. |

Re: Trying to convince myself to wear more colorful eyeshadows
I second what Mandilly said - and she and I seem to have the same colouring - very fair peaches and cream, green eyes, red hair.
I can wear some pinks. Have to stay away from orangey things (even though I do have a bit of blue in my eyes) and a few pinks and I don't wear reds, because that makes me look ill, but other than that....the sky's the limit, and I often get compliments. My 'fall back' combo is a slightly shimmery gold plum on the lid, topped with heather and orchid, and a merlot liner. For me, that's toned down. But it really pops my eyes. |
